LT Cabin/Signal Box Codes 1906-2006 Picc/Nor « Thread Started on Nov 9, 2006, 8:15pm »
Following on from the list of Met/District cabin codes, here is a (hopefully) complete list of Northern/Picadilly lines codes. I have included the Northern City Line here as although it was owned by the Met for a period, it has mostly been a branch of the Northern Line.

Addition:
PICCADILLY LINE Y - Piccadilly Circus Station starting signals both roads 1915?-27
These were controlled by Piccadilly Circus Bakerloo line cabin (B) in order to hold the last Picc trains at night for interchange. From 1927-34, these were controlled by Covent Garden cabin.
BZ - Piccadilly Circus Station starting signals 1934-39
Control was transferred back to Piccadilly Circus Bakerloo.
BPZ - Piccadilly Circus Station starting signals 1939-80
Control was transferred to the new cabin at Piccadilly Circus (BP) and the existing (at the time original 1906 sliding spectacle) starting signals in the tunnel mouths were recoded 'BPZ'.
Unsure as to why i didn't include these...
Also a point of interest - the 3 Yerkes tube lines (Bak/Pic/Hamp) never originally used 'C' in their series of cabin codes, presumably to leave a spare letter for the future to slot in any changes and make recoding existing cabins easier. Note this with the Piccadilly Line (Hyde Pk/Covent Garden) and Northern (Kennnington/Ch X). In both these cases, it was due to 'A' codes being abolished in the 1930s when 'S'-auto signals were gradually being re-prefixed 'A', meaning 'A' and 'B'-coded cabins would have to step-up a letter, hence the first use of 'C'. On the Bakerloo, the new Paddington crossover of 1913 used the logically spare code 'C', with 'B' going from the 1915-closed Marylebone cabin to the new replacement Piccadilly Circus crossover of 1915. It would have been more logical to have Paddington as 'B' and Picc Cir as 'C' though to keep line order but Paddington came first and used the only spare code.
