Does anyone know why all the chocolate machines at below ground stations are showing signs saying "Temporarily out of order"?

All of them say that, AFAICS. I saw threads in u.t.l. where people were speculating on why, but no one seems to know.

Wasn't this taken over by a private company a couple of years ago? Saw all Picc Circus OOS today and even my home station of Manor House.

A few weeks/months ago, Oxford Circus station was evacuated and LFB called, due to smoke pouring from the chocolate machine. LUL engineers inspected them and found that a faulty part was causing the machine to dispense more than chocolate. Whilst repairs take place all the machines have been isolated in "section 12" stations. Those outside are not affected.

Yeah, I've noticed they're all out of service. I thought they were gonna be replaced by them super-duper hi-tech machines.

They don't dispense anything at all half the time! I once made the mistake of putting a £2 coin in one of them without realising that it was accepting 'correct change only'. The coin came out.....as far as the blockage which some turd had lodged in the change chute. It left me chocless and pennyless.

As opposed to my son, who always wins!!
If no chocolate comes out and he presses the 'refund' button he always gets out far more than he puts in.
For example: put in 40p, get £2.50 out!
It's happened to him at least half a dozen times over the years now.

AAh I've been caught by buggers putting stuff up the change pipe once before, I discovered if you have a nice long key you can un-jam it, I got my £1 back. Along with about £14 extra, made my day that did although I felt bad about it after.

Don't feel bad about it! If you hadn't got the 14 quid then the scrote who jammed the chute may have come back to collect it.

I can remember many a time surrepticiously checking the change slots and pressing the refund button. Sometimes I gained, sometimes I didnt. I also remember one machine at Euston that went a bit mad. I was waiting near it, and heard a 'thundd-dunk' noise. Checking the display, it was saying thank you. I checked the hatch and had a free tube of wine gums. Seconds later, thudd-dunk. Checked again, and another freebie, this time a caramel. I just left it to carry on dispensing free chocs! By witnessing an engineer input a code, I was also able to bring up the sales figures for the machines. Wow, intertesting to know that machine 0104 has sold 11 Fruit & Nut Bars!
