'Disruption'' yesterday. « Thread Started on Nov 1, 2009, 6:47pm »
Coming back from the footie match yesterday mid- afternoon, all trains running nicely from Finsbury Park.Got on a Rayners Lane train about 15.30.Arrive Green Park 16.00 ish. Announcement from the driver about a defective train at Manor House and we are being held indefinitely at the station.Any passengers wishing to use the Victoria Line to continue are advised to leave the train now.Not much good for me unless I want to get to Sudbury Town via Brixton,or get an 18 bus from Baker Street and arrive at G*** knows what time. Oh no I think, and it was all going so well.Anyway we sat there for about 5 mins, and then peep peep ,doors close and away we go.No problem. Questions- what happened here? Why would a defective train at Manor House, way up the line to the North, stop the service ,going the other way Westbound. Is it a turnaround thing.? Very interested in the explanation.

Ah yes, I was trying to change from the northbound Victoria line at Finsbury Park yesterday at around 5-ish, but ended up taking a 'can of sardines' (the 29) home from there. From what I've heard from the service updates at the time, there was a broken rail somewhere between Manor House and Turnpike Lane but there were very few details about a defective train.

Would this not have been after the defective train to regulate the service, and get it back running "real time"?

Travel to Victoria on the Victoria line, (didn't see the weekly closures email this week, so feel free to correct me if the Vic wasn't running yesterday!) change on to the District line, and then you have no less than 7 opportunities to change on to the Piccadilly line to get to Sudbury Town, and was the Chiltern line not running yesterday?

It was a broken fishplate west of Turnpike Lane on the westbound apparently. The incident train stopped short of it and was eventually authorised to return wrong line to Turnpike Lane with its passengers. The same (empty) train was then used to take the Emergency Response Unit to the site for repairs to be effected.
The Picc also had a 45-minute shut down at Rayners Lane with points failing from about 14.45, but the Met was largely unaffected.
Lots of delays and cancellations until the end of traffic in consequence, probably with an AT-RL shuttle.

Thanks for that reganorak..As the shut down was 45 mins from 14.45,then we must have luckily missed it by 30 mins or so and things were getting back to ''normal''.although from what you said it was not really running properly until much later. This would really have been a case for changing at Acton Town this time.(see my earlier thread question on this) .Met line was only running from H on the Hill that day.
