I think there are five - pre-production train 2 (21099), and four production trains (21003, 21005, 21007 and 21009). Exactly right.

We had another delivery overnight to. Couldnt see the Unit number but was still all coupled up to the 20's and barriers @ 09:35 this morning Yes, we had a bit of a slow run this morning (due to adhesion issues) so the decision was taken to uncouple the formation later in the day, rather than risk shunting activities continuing into the start of traffic hours which could have potentially delayed service trains.

A wise choice to keep us customers happy! lol.
S'cuse the ignorance but do the 20's shunt it into the depot or does it go under its own power?

The convoy goes into depot as one train, and the uncoupling and shunting is done in there. Not sure at exactly what point the S-stock is "switched on" but I would imagine it is after everything is uncoupled and un-wrapped and given it's final "pre-current" inspection.

I saw 21009 running this evening. Also saw minor delays on the met line because of a lack of available trains

I finally took an S stock, 21009 actually from Harrow to Northwood!
After travelling on it, I'm really going to miss the A stock!
The DVA was well out, at every station The air con units rattled The seats were ok, better than 378 and 09s The suspension was average, better yes, but not 50 years better - the train still rocked around, even on new track! I didn't like looking down the train length for some reason, it felt like being on a bus. Did not like seeing people in the corner of my eye all the time! The braking was very jerky, probably as the driver was not used to it. Considering 21009 has been on the line a very short time, dissapointed!

I agree with most of these points. The DVA is pitiful. I can't say I noticed air con rattling but maybe it was. Seats are nice but not as nice as the A stock. Suspension is crap compared to the 378s for example. The walk through carriages are horrible, it means it will be impossible to get away from trouble and if a chav is playing music out loud, you will be able to hear it from two carriages away. Same goes for smoking, if someone is smoking on the train you will smell it throughout the entire train. S stock does make me feel very bare, I like the closed-in feeling of the A stock, especially on a long journey like Chesham-Aldgate. I agree with you about the brakes.
All in all it needs improving to win me over.

The insular reaction to anything remotely contemporary on this forum is getting tiresome. Sure, comments regarding the DVA or suspension are legitimate, but complaining about not liking "seeing people in the corner of my eye all the time!" is just irritating. Do you really think trains should be segmented, as in the past, despite the benefits in passenger flow and spaciousness, because people don't like seeing others in the corner of their eyes?

I'm sure Tubeprune will be along soon and correct both the S stock and the 2009 ts wheel diameters. I need to check the facts, but the 2009ts bogie is virtually the same as the 1995ts bogie. thus I suspect it shares 770mm (new) wheels. Having seen S stock and '09ts bogies side by side there's no noticeable difference in wheel size. Both my 700mm diameters came from a certain prjb in a post here districtdave.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=newfuturetrains&thread=7405&post=148601I've checked my 2009TS and I have a drawing dated 2004 which states the wheel diameter is 740mm. I haven't got an up to date S Stock bogie drawing. Perhaps we can get a confirmed diameter for both stocks please?

Thanks Edwin, I can't have an opinion now then, cheers!
The seating point is valid, and when you have never know anything else it's going to take time to get used to!

Now if you look back, I rarely actually criticise the new stock. But... The layout of the seating is such that throughout the train you have the 2+2 seating which has a row of side-on seating facing it. On a busy train, this will lead to several people (sat side-on to the direction of travel) having no other view than the rows of 2+2 infront of them. Naturally this will lead those on the 2+2 seats to have the feeling someone is watching them, or, as metman puts it, seeing people in the corner of your eye. A pretty valid point I felt.
