In all the years I have travelled on these trains I have never noticed that the large racks had a built-in umbrella holder! As for the price, it's ridiculous; they are trying to milk the enthusiast and they will end up getting rid of them in two years time in a fire sale. In every company where I have worked it has been accepted practice that the staff have concessionary access to company items. There are many LU staff who would love one of these for their hall or garage and it would be so easy to strip a few trains and supply them for a few quid each. It would also help improve the respect of some staff towards the management; instead they are treated like football fans and ripped off. Disgraceful.

The A-Stock luggage racks are more expensive than the (much more substantial) rack off of a 4VEP which I got from an architectural salvage firm (LASSCO) who presumably had their mark-up... I'm having to re-think the future decor of my hallway in the light of this information...

Has anybody made the LTM aware of the situation regarding the price of the racks. I'm sure they would welcome any comments.

I'm sure that money will be put to good use. What with the consultants who were hired to design an appropriate retail package for the racks needing their fees taken care of. Hauliers for transporting the remaining standards to the scrapyard are expensive too. Then, of course, the LTM needs more virtual interactive stuff. So, you know, people can get a tempered glimpse of allowable history. What it was like to be a mechanics apprentice fixing penny-farthings in Dulwich, circa 1898, for example.

For what it is worth,I reckon they should be priced around the £100-£150 mark. It would be sad if they sit unsold, and then are sold for scrap due to "lack of demand"....I hope Ohmslaw is right about a clearance sale....

;D ;D ;D You've got to admire them haven't you. LUL's oldest train (not by design, by default) and they choose to cash in on them, based on the interest for the stock - which is largely based on it's age, so full circle there then...
Makes you wonder where the profit for this "scrap" (I'm sorry, but the rest of the train is considered that) will end up. Certainly not in any staff pocket nor any charity in London.
The Metropolitan Line story? Oh please. Will we have this told to us again in 10 years time when they're trying to sell of Door Buttons from the "classic" S-stock.
Is it any wonder that everytime we send a train to Northwood, we spend a day or 2 fielding "tresspass" reports (which slow the railway to a crawl) of people trying to access the siding to grab their own relics**. Bring the price down and speed up the railway.
**Please do not do this. Whatever the prize, is it really worth being bowled over by a Chiltern Train which won't stop as easy as an A or S-stock.

Hmm... my father-in-law always called the through lounge of my terrace "a corridor". Now there's an idea for the next time I re-decorate.
