the consist of the beast? ;D
Seriously, just seen on the slow line north of New Barnet, a rake of (I think 6) EWS-liveried class 66s heading north.
Any idea what the reason for that might be?

Quite common now moving locos to yards for weekend engineering trains or returning to depots from yards, the rule book instruction of no more than 5 coupled locos being run together now allows regional controls to allow more than 5 subject to various line of route checks being met on a route by route basis

Cheers roboverground.
It just seemed odd to me that there were so many unbalanced workings as to leave 6 locomotives in the wrong place. Still if you do end up with them like that, one movement with all of them is a lot easier to deal with than a a collection of them.

They were going up to Whitemoor for Engineering trains. As there is always a large requirement just at weekends, and varying every weekend, there are often these large light loco moves to and from Whitemoor on Friday/Saturdays and then back again late Sundays. They usually come from Doncaster though - coming up from London was unusual.

The Doncaster to whitemoor move was cancelled as of 30th june in favour for wembley so last saturday, 7 class 66 loco's ran from wembley to whitemoor they return back to wembley on monday morning having completed the engineering tasks in lincolnshire.
