In my experience there are rarely Central Line PA announcements east or westbound at Stratford and little or no attempt at joined up thinking. Although it may be that those wanting a westbound Central Line service would not have been content with a Greater Anglia train terminating at Liverpool St, at least it would have got them to central London and enabled other connections. That was my thinking, Liverpool Street offers loads of connections both in itself and through being only a few stops along from King's Cross St Pancras and passenger flows at Liverpool Street were moving very smoothly indeed. Hopefully come the Olympics they'll have the PA system working properly.

I worked at Stratford when the JLE opened and the PA set up back then was rather unusual. The LUL station control room, down by the Jubilee Line, could do PAs across the whole of the station or in selected areas, staff could do PAs with handheld mics on the Jubilee Line but up on the old Network Rail platforms the PA was operated by FGE staff from their control room. If the LUL control room made a PA it would override all others. I don’t know if the new Platform 3A has a PA on there but if LUL staff were up on the Central Line with megaphones it could be that the PAs on those platforms are still done by the mainline TOC staff

I found it odd that trains were being reversed at White City. Could they not have run them to Marble Arch or even Holborn to reverse?
I arrived on the eastbound platform at Liverpool Street at around 19:05. There was an empty train half way in the platform (set 004), with the driver having a conversation with the station supervisor. At this time, they were still anoouncing that the Central was suspended westbound only - I'm assuming they were letting some eastbound trains through for stabling purposes before that too was suspended. The train had apparently lost ATP codes on the way into the platform. It was also the last eastbound to run through. When the driver was given the all clear to proceed, he was told to run empty, much to his bemusement, as he was more than willing to collect the passengers who were waiting on the platform. So the train went off empty, and the passengers on the platform were told to leave!
The station supervisor was very apologetic, saying that there was no reason that the train could not have picked up passengers as it was not defective.

There were three trains involved, one that was held at Queensway westbound with some 'shoes' missing (hence no reversing at Marble Arch), Holborn westbound (which was devoid of several shoes) and one St. Paul's westbound.
Trains were unable to reverse initially at Liverpool Street because of a points failure there, so Bethnal Green was used until 20.45.
The traction current layout and the location of stalled trains on the westbound at Bank prevented trains reversing west to east by shunting west of Liverpool Street station, and instead trains had to do a double shunt via the sidings and back out into the eastbound platform.
Some eastbound trains may have been let through, but these were most likely depot/siding stablers at the east end of the line.
