This morning (Monday 8 December) at 8:15, I saw an LO train sitting in platform 17 at Clapham Junction.
Is this a usual occurrence, as it is something I've never seen before.

The unit covered for a Southern cancellation (I think it was 2O67 but I may be way off mark) - effectively a Watford service starting at Shepherds Bush and it also did a return back to Shepherds Bush as well. Joined up thinking !

One Sunday morning earlier this year I took a train from Willesden Junction which ran into platform 17. I think there must have been overnight engineering works on the line into platform 1.

I'm pretty sure you'll find there are regular scheduled workings into platform 17 for LO. Can't find my source to quote right now, but have read it somewhere! I do see them there from time to time, and in fact the very first time I took an LO train to Clapham J it terminated in 17 (although of course that's not evidence for regular workings. Just sayin'!).

Most if not all Willesden Drivers sign Platform 17. NXG drivers do not.

Most if not all Willesden Drivers sign Platform 17. NXG drivers do not. Why is that? Because, well, surely it adversely affects flexibility if some drivers aren't qualified to drive a route that others are. What is the procedure for ascertaining whether or not the person on the front signs the route in question anyway? Whereas, I mean, I may simply be parading my ignorance here, but surely it would be a relatively small addition to road training to have everyone sign platform 17 and then that option would always be there if you needed it.

tutIt is certainly needed as I was on a train from Imperial Wharf which was diverted to Platform 17. In this case, I am not sure what would have happened had the driver not signed for this route. Diverted to Wandsworth Road via Longhedge and factory Junction? By chance, as we passed Latchmere No 2 Junction en route to No. 1 Junction and Platform 17, I saw the service to Willesden Junction going by. I actually asked the driver as I left the station by the footbridge, and he did not know why we had been diverted. It have seen it happen a number of times(my house overlooks the station). Some may be empty stock workings via Streatham Hill.

If the driver does not sign platform 17 then they have to go back to Imperial wharf & terminate there.

Probably because there isn't a direct route from Factory Junction to Platform 17.

Correct, which is why ELL drivers all sign Battersea Park.

I do have a poster in my room saying that "Platform 1 is closed - All London Overground services will arrive and depart from platform 17" which was made redundant upon the second LO platform opening! So it was a frequent occurrence on at least one day!
