So as a resident on the northern end of the metropolitan line, i notice that none of the stations north of finchely road (or is it wembley park?) have the auto announcements such as "good service on all lines" or "XXXXXXXXX line, the train now approaching is for xxxxxx please stand back from the platform edge."
So my question is, when did these type of announcements start to be rolled out onto stations and in which order did sections get them?
Also am i right in thinking that the met is the only line that does not feature these announcements across the entire line? I was at south harrow the other day and even this station seems to have gained these auto announcements. The entire northern seems to have them and so does the Victoria line, the heathrow branch of the picc also seems to.
I must say, I am glad they have not yet plagued the northern end of the met, are there any plans for this to change?

The announcements that you refer to were installed by Tubelines (JNP) managed stations from the mid-'00s onwards. The voice is Elinor Hamilton, although Phil Sayer provides the 'mind the gap' and security messages. The service update messages as part of this system only seem to feature at selected stations e.g. Bank, otherwise it's down to the duty manager.
To my understanding the Metropolitan and Victoria lines, as you referenced, will only feature this system at JNP managed stations that they pass through e.g. Finsbury Park and Wembley Park.
BCV and SSL managed stations generally tend to use the 'Voice Perfect' system, voiced by Henrietta Bass. I must point out that this system is used chiefly for station-wide announcements, although there is sometimes a "please stand behind the yellow line at all times for your safety" message played at platforms.

Westminster and Waterloo on the JLE does have them. Exactly right, although despite PEDs, the system wasn't altered to remove the unnecessary "please stand back from the platform edge!"

To be fair, in order to allow others to alight, people should not stand right near the edge anyway, so it's somewhat justified...!

'Somewhat' being the key word --- Interestingly, Arnos Grove have both kinds of station announcer system i.e. Voice Perfect and Tubelines (Elinor/Phil). This is in addition to several pre-recorded announcements by the station staff themselves. The Tubelines equipment hadn't been utilised for many years until this week, where they seem to have reactivated it!

I wonder how many Stations get nothing at all?
Wimbledon for example, I have never heard a single announcement about the District line, automated or manual. I don't know if that's largely due to it being a SWT station?
I hate using Victoria now. Every two minutes it's "stand well back behind the yellow line" or "there is a good service on all lines", and I don't wish to cause her offence but the lady who does it, well her voice really is not pleasant to listen to!
I hate the "good service" announcements in general. As a standard one expects a 'good service' and so it should operate on a no news is good news basis.

I've heard a number of announcement to the effect of "The train on platform X is about to depart, please mind the closing doors, do not obstruct the doors etc" but these are manual announcements done from the little booth next to SNAX and seem to depend on which staff member is on duty, and the number of people going through the station.

Noticed this morning lots of people dashing from platform to platform there. We heard an announcement on our SWT platform not to change to the District because of disruption, just as an s stock arrived - and another was seen rolling in as we left.

Uxbridge-Rayners Lane is managed by the Metropolitan line, which is why Tubelines never installed the system. Chorleywood, Chalfont & Latymer, Chesham and Amersham all have the Voice Perfect system in place, but perhaps it's always switched off? It's probably up to whoever is on duty as to whether or not it's activated.
