I'm just wondering. I am currently going away for the weekend. I got to Kings Cross for 6:20pm. I then went to the underground to rush to Paddington and waited and waited and waited until two trains arrived within minutes of each other, at around 6:48pm. Why the over 20 min/almost half hour wait?

No idea, but I would have got the met to Baker Street and changed to the Bakerloo line to Paddington.

reviewing the evidence from that time, departures were: 18.22 T276 Hammersmith 21429/30 18.24 T207 Hammersmith 21425/26 18.26 T450 Chesham 21081/82 18.27 T407 Uxbridge 21073/74 18.29 T210 Hammersmith 21491/92 18.31 T405 Uxbridge 21095/96 18.33 T171 Hammersmith 21465/66 18.36 T461 21061/62 18.38 T425 Amersham 21107/08 18.42 T430 Uxbridge 21097/98 18.45 T464 21075/76 18.48 T172 Hammersmith 21549/50
no delays were reported.

You should remember that the Circle/Hammersmith & City service has to fit between Met trains and is scheduled at around 10 to 12 minutes on both lines at peak times.
One slight delay is all that you saw.

One of the first things I learnt from this forum with regards the SSR, was "Get the first train as far as you can, then wait".
In this situation there were plenty of trains to Baker Street, you could have changed there to the Bakerloo or walked the last mile. There's probably a bus, but they're not my thing.

You should get the first train no matter line you are on things can and do happen very fast which can screw the service up

An example of why system wide status messages do not work. Agreed, it is good advice to catch the first train and change, but a 15 munute gap on a 5 minute scheduled service isn't great, and some form of announcement should have been made stating that such a gap was present in the service.

The platform indicators also help make a decision. I would have let the first Met go to see if a Hammersmith train came up. If not get the next train to Baker Street and change (checking the indicator at Great Portland Street from the train if you can),
