Ive been using the stretch of line between paddington and reading a few times over the last week and i noticed one strange thing.
I have not seen any 165s/166s, or very few of them. I know the needs for these units have been taken over by electrostars, but i didnt think this would lead to complete disappearance.
ANyone know what is happening to them now that the section to reading is electrified?

They are still working the Bedwyn - Paddington services, and will still be after the electrification to Newbury goes live end of this year?)until, presumably, they are replaced by bi-modes.

I was wondering if Chiltern (DB) would like any 165s or 166s to boost their services?

I was wondering if Chiltern (DB) would like any 165s or 166s to boost their services? Maybe, but there are no available. The have been cascaded west to Bristol SPM, allowing an internal shuffle of other western DMUs and then in turn allowing Sprinter units to be cascaded to the North.

As said gone to Bristol so the 150/2's can go to Exeter to replace 150/1's that have already gone to Northern and the 143s to anybody that will have them or scrap. Also in the short term 153's have also gone to Exeter running in 1, 2's, or 3's or coupled with 150/2's until 158's get there by end of the year.
One short HST with sliding door coaches is running between Exeter and Penzance in a self contained diagram. This freed up one 150/2 to Exeter. They need four coach trains between Paignton and Exmouth in the summer and in December for the Devon Metro made up of 150/2's and 158's to Barnstaple. The half hour Plymouth Penzance should be up and running with short HST's.

They're polluting my local stopping services from Taunton to Bristol nowadays. Never liked these units.

Saw one at Southampton Central a week or two, standing in for a GWR service which is usually run with a borrowed SWR 158.

For now, although they'll be replaced on the remaining Thames valley services by 769-flexes, ex Thameslink 319s with diesel engines strapped to them.

As I understand it, these cascades are indeed to allow all remaining paces on both GWR and in the north of England to be sent for scrap by sending the 150/1s to Northern to release the pacers on Northern for scrapping as well.
