Just as a heads up, Video125 are currently offering their Driver's Eye View video of Kennington - High Barnet via Charing X for free. Download from here. They are also offering their Island Line DEV, and their " Learning to steam" for free as well. Hope this is of interest to some

Is learning to steam just audio?

No. There is image involved. Windows media player did the job for me. However, if you can't see any image, perhaps you don't have the right CODEC. Try this free software. It is very comprehensive and should be able to play it without any hassle. It is also free. VLC Media Player

Ah, ok. Thought there should be, but as it was from the same site as two that did work right... I use HandBrake for problem Codecs. Transcoded it now. Works fine.

Downloaded the Northern line one a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had time to watch it yet. The file is over 1GB so make sure you're using a decent connection to download it (eg home wifi) and not over a public or mobile network. It's also better to use a desktop or laptop to download it rather than a mobile device. I downloaded it over my university's wifi, which was a bit slow as my college throttles the wifi (they block Netflix and Steam on campus to stop people streaming films or downloading games) but it was doable.

It's a university in Ireland. Why?? Just that we can't get any serious research data in or out of ours (over the network) because they reserve 90% of the bandwidth for the student wi-fi because (and I quote) "the students have an expectation to be able to relax and do things like stream Netflix in-between lectures". We have to resort to carrying flight cases full of external hard drives to our collaborators.

Mine doesn't publicly advertise the Netflix ban, but I was at a society meeting where they were showing s film and they couldnt use it. As for Steam, I have seen students use it to play games but they might be playing offline, but it is impossible to download over it. Never heard any problems about getting research data over it. We used to have problems with Facebook and Bebo in the computer suites. What is your field of study?

I used the general network to download these videos and they came down inside of a couple of minutes each, but we need to move ~4TB a day from our instrumentation to a new storage unit. People generally throw it onto a portable hard drive and walk - it's quicker.

I'll probably watch it when I have more free time.

All of them. Very good, if dated now.

How are they dated? Is it because they were filmed in the late 90s?

How are they dated? Is it because they were filmed in the late 90s? Very much so. The most obvious of differences is that the Northern line no longer uses likewise signals. There are other alterations too that will only be obvious to those more familiar with the front end.

Everything that captures a moment in time is inevitably 'dated'. The word has become synonymous with 'outdated', to the detriment of language. Don't get me started on 'contemporary'!

Language evolves and changes. That is literally the entire point of etymology, and by extension language. This is not a bad thing. 🙄

The word dated does have a negative connotation, and is often used in a derogatory way.

I just love the fact that there is not a mobile phone in sight.....back in the days where people read newspapers and talked to each other!

back in the days where people read newspapers and talked to each other! Lies! People never talked to each other (in the big cities at least). And reading newspapers isn't really a virtue.

I wish they'd do a Thameslink core tunnel video.

Is there a CrossRail / Elizabeth Line one yet? Considering the core is not yet completed, and no trains have run through end-to-end under the final configuration, I'll let you answer that one... ;-)
