Has the composition of the textile not changed over time? An analogy might be carpet - a 100% wool Axminster will wear very differently from a 50/50 mix...

I've no evidence aside from anecdotal, but it looks like they cheaped out on the quality of the moquette, compared to previous TS, and badly worn seats on relatively young trains, increasing ridership aside, appear to be the new norm.

Back in February I said this: I noticed an extremely worn seat on an S7 this week. What was interesting was that the particular seat was at least as badly worn as any shown on this thread, and yet none of the others in the lightly loaded carriage, that I could see, had any signs of wear at all. Last weekend I noticed another instance of a badly worn seat in the same position (fixed seat next to first door in first carriage). It wasn't as badly worn as the last such instance, but it was odd that it was in the same place and that the rest of the seats were immaculate.

I regularly see badly worn-out seats in this particular location. Although I assumed it happens all over the train - I just never get on S Stock at any other location :-)

On an S8 today (unit 50), and the floor had been cleaned except under the seats, so it looked very scruffy. Cutting corners, or maybe the cleaning machines don't fit under the seats?

I have noticed a few like that. I assume they have a few types of machine as it looks polished under the seats, but visibly dirty as if a lower profile machine does not seat as well as the main type they use?
