Having recently passed through Morden, I noticed a few changes to previous visits.
Firstly the trains were using all 3 tracks to reverse, as opposed to 2 which has been the case for the last few years. Does anyone know if stepping back is still taking place (I would guess so as the turnaround time would be 4mins at peak hours), and if so how many trains do the drivers step back?
Secondly, the station resembled a building site, with hoardings in the platform centres. Are lifts, and thus an extra passenger bridge to access them going to be installed here (in a similar fashion to Earl's Ct)?

So that's why Eurotunnel isn't being bailed out, I had an idea someone else would make a bid!

THROUGH Morden? Now I AM worried ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D A passenger passing through a station doesn't mean that the train passed through the station Now any serious answers? sorry, we like to have our fun on occasion Personally I've never been as far south as Morden on the Northern so can't say, sorry, but I would surmise that if things at Mordern are anything like the Jubilee at Stratford, then I'd hazard a guess and say that stepping back is probably not required anymore.

A passenger passing through a station doesn't mean that the train passed through the station Now any serious answers? sorry, we like to have our fun on occasion Personally I've never been as far south as Morden on the Northern so can't say, sorry, but I would surmise that if things at Mordern are anything like the Jubilee at Stratford, then I'd hazard a guess and say that stepping back is probably not required anymore. Stepping back 3 trains will actually be introduced at Stratford in the next WTT. This will give plenty of time for drivers to change ends at peak hours, with less than 24tph being reversed. This will be more popular with drivers, and can also allow for some catch up time if things are running late. Morden is much busier than Stanmore, reversing or processing up to 30tph. If this was done without stepping back, the drivers would have just 4mins to change ends, which is the minimum time for drivers to change ends. This would be very unpopular with drivers (especially if they needed the toilet!), and would also allow for no catch up time if trains were running late. Thus I would expect that stepping back is taking place at Morden, but then again this is LUL we are talking about!

Just thought I'd briefly try and answer your questions All 3 Platforms are used to reverse after trains have been put away after the morning/evening peaks Stepping back is still taking place in the morning/evening peak, as for numbers its lots! Yes a lot of work is taking place I believe lifts are being installed.

Oi. Morden's a lovely place I'll have you know And yes indeed, we're getting lifts and apparently a new footbridge as well. Still looks like a right old mess in the meantime though. Stepping back is indeed still happening, I caught a HB via Bank train at about 19:30 this evening and twas still being used then.
