In any screen, look for the text in the top right hand corner which will say something along the lines of:
Hey, yourusername, you have x messages, x are new.
Clicking on the x messages part will take you to your PM (Private Message) inbox.
To read a message that's been sent to you, click on the subject.
There are other options along the wide dark-green bar:
* It should be noted that when you create a PM, you should check the name of the member whom you are contacting, if it is not a reply. The PM system uses the name originally given when a member signs up with an account; screen name changes are not taken into account!
You can easily see whether a given member has changed their screen name by hovering over their screen name in their profile or in a post - look at the bottom left of your screen and you should see something like this:

The members name will appear where the example above says 'colin'.

There are other options along the wide dark-green bar:
- Click on 'new message' to create a new PM; the screen is the same as when creating a post on the forum (click here to see our tutorial on creating a post)).
- The next option along is 'delete all' - be careful with this one!
- Moving along, we have 'mark as read'
- Next is 'outbox' - the area where you can see the messages you've sent. The outbox will also show you whether a message you've sent has been read, by indicating a sealed or open envelope symbol.
- The next option gives you the opportunity to 'back up' all your PM's.
- Lastly is your 'preferences' option - we recommend that all members go to their PM preference area and change the option 'Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new Personal Message has arrived?' to "yes"........that way you won't miss important PM's that are sent out from the forum staff from time to time.
