In terms of legacy, though, will the redevelopment of the region following the Olympics be in keeping with its history? New jobs and a big shopping centre could lead to people being priced out of the area, especially if the improved transport links mean city-workers can get to the centre easier as well...

Is that a siding south of the station? If it is I don't get why it would be south of it.

The track layout south of Stratford is approximately like the not-to-scale diagram below. My guess as to why is that this allows trains to reverse at Stratford in both directions,. Services from the south can terminate in and reverse from either platform, shuttles from Stratford international can tip-out in the southbound platform and reverse via the centre track even if there the northern approach is entirely plain-line (I have no idea).

Today whilst I was on the Jubilee, I saw a B07 stock DLR train at the new Stratford Intl platforms at Canning Town. Looked like it was parked up rather than on its way somewhere.

Today at 11.45, I saw a DLR train slowly crawling Northbound at West Ham.

Over the last week I've been speaking to the Southeastern staff (not part of TFL so attach some degree of caution to what they say). They tell me that the line may not be ready until March at the very earliest, possibly June. It's likely that cash constraints might be disrupting their timelines. Does anybody else have feedback on the delays? Stratford International DLR looks pretty much complete bar-in the plastic wrappers and some dressings.

Does anyone know if this line will open using 3 car trains or will they be added when necessary?

As I think the extension is scheduled to open before the Beckton branch 3-car works are finished (although there doesn't look to be much left to do), then I think most trains on the Stratford International branch will be 2-car. Even if trains from SI are self-contained to either Beckton or Woolwich (I haven't a clue) then this will give most flexibility. Also as most trains from Bank to Woolwich are currently 2-car, and this is an established route, I don't think that starting out with 3-cars will be necessary. I wouldn't be surprised if the press launch train was 3-car though.
I should make it clear this is all speculation.

They've been having problems with the signalling system not working right (I don't have futher details) but it seems the new line is being attacked and valvable metals etc are being stolen on a regular basis making it difficult to complete the commissioning phase.

Thefts within what should be the most secure building site in Britain? Sounds like an inside job.

I got a quick snap of testing of the DLR branch from West Ham on the weekend, and there were trains at Canning Town as well. My phone's not very good, but I'll post them when I get the chance. After 10 years of walking from C2C/District Line over the bridge down to the Jubilee line, it's going to be a bit weird having a whole other set of trains running through the station.

Well, January's gone. Does anyone have a definition of "Early 2011"? Some of the Docklands Connections maps displayed at DLR stations still have "Opening Summer 2010" for the Woolwich/Beckton <> Stratford International leg - which time I think has definitely passed!!! Whatever the reasons, this spectacular delay is beginning to make the project seem like a government IT implementation

It now seems the opening date of the new DLR line to Stratford is "Late Spring" (so up to about June 2011). Here's a link. developments.dlr.co.uk/extensions/stratford/index.aspI see that on an associated page there on project updates - "Here you will find all the latest Development Project Updates" - it stops doing updates in 2007, which is presumably when it started going all wrong. developments.dlr.co.uk/extensions/stratford/project_updates.aspI wonder who has noticed that they haven't updated the Updates page for 4 years. All the pages there keep going on about the 2012 Olympics, as if those are the only thing that matters. So, with my usual rule that on any project where the project managers keep putting the completion date back to three months away, what they really mean is they don't have a clue, I will guess that this will maybe open sometime in 2012.

I'd noticed about a year ago that the updates weren't being updated, and wrote to ask what was going on. Didn't get any response. It's quite bizarre - everything looks as if it's all ready to go, and they claim (even in the updated pages) that the testing phase started in 2010. Hopefully they have now suggested "Late spring 2011" so that they can suddenly blow the whistle in a few weeks and say "We opened early!"

Egg on their faces. Mind you Docklands has an far better history with projects then the rest of TfL. This is the first big slip up theyve had development-wise, isn't it?

I sent a request RE the Limehouse Station redevelopment. This was about 2.5 years ago. basically they pulled the platform roof off in Autumn 2008 and then stopped work. They didn't replace the roof until summer 2009. When I questioned why there were no updates and the station refurb was so far behind, I did get a response, but it was all too, 'we are aware of the delays and would like to apologise.' But I didn't ever get to the facts of why they didn't update their site or their customers on what they were doing.
I moved from the area before they completed the redevelopment of the station. Still, as with all projects dates slip due to outside influences. I think someone mentioned earlier in the thread that work couldn't continue until the 'new DLR' platforms at Stratford were (given up) by their previous users.

According to the TransportBriefing website, DLR management have been put in charge of the new Thames Cable Car project. Maybe it's diverted their attention?
