I thought Eastenders was supposed to be set in the East end of London.
When Charlie Slater left the show (13/01/11) he went to leave on an LUL train. It was a 95 stock (clearly shown) and even if I wasn't 100% certain of the stock.........the big give away was signal NP15
What was he doing in East Finchley!!!!!

They do a lot of filming in the middle platforms at East Finchley. Seen it loads of times! I'm not sure how many EastEbders viewers would recognise signal NP15!!!

Well, I have 2 admissions.
Firstly, I'm not actually an Eastenders viewer (first episode I've seen in about 4 years) It was on in the background (I'm more of a Corrie fan - and I don't know much about the trams up there!!!).
Secondly, I'm actually an ex driver on the Northern Line.
They seem to like using East Finchley for quite a bit of filming of outside shots and Charing Cross (Jubilee Line section) for underground shots.

It'd be better if they did it at the correct station, Bromley-by-Bow as that is what Walford East replaces on their fictional tube map.

I haven't. I know they film in elstree, but the thing is they had tried to make it less obvious by putting walford east on the roundel... but they have a d78 carrage to use, i think dawn had her baby on it in one episode. looking on youtube for previous locations now...

They used a District line interior recently with a scene with Heather and Ronnie.

Re the OP, this scene was unusual as it was filmed on the main Northbound platform, rather than the usual middle ones. Thank God, Charlie Slater has left, the actor couldnt act for toffee.

Robert, Derek Martin cant act. Bit parts playing thugs in the Sweeney [mainly physical stuff] and playing a cabbie in Eastenders who most of the time was filmed eating. What else has he done of any note.

There was a DVA heard from on-board the train: "This station is Walford East. The next station is Bow Road" You could also hear a platform announcer reminding customers to mind the gap. They used a District line interior recently with a scene with Heather and Ronnie. It was more of a prototype refurbished D78 stock. For example it still had the original door open buttons.

I think you're getting muddled up with that other actor, James Marcus, who looks a bit like Derek Martin. Oddly enough, he occasionally played thugs in Minder as well. Any other Derek Martin lookey-likey's we should be considering?

I love Eastenders but it really annoys me when they do things like this.
The station is said to be on the District Line in place of Bromley By Bow. The CGI Train that passes over the rail bridge is a D Stock train. All good so far.
But then you have their D-Stock car for interior filming and it is not accurate to a current D-Stock train. The LED is different & there are door open and close buttons. Also you see tunnel walls on both sides of the train. In the episode where Ronnie is in labour on the train they come out of a tunnel straight into Barking Station where as there is no tunnel on either side of Barking (except the Pass under, but it is only about 15 seconds long). Not to mention the fact that Barking hasn't had a hospital with a maternity ward in many years.
Secondly, when they shot the episode of Phil Mitchell on the bridge they showed a clip of a train approaching. But it was a train exiting the tunnel at Golders Green.
Also as we have all noticed, this latest episode was filmed at East Finchly where there is a roof. This shows that the entrance and walkways are above the station, but as we all know, you go up stairs at Walford East to reach the platform. However I did like the fact that they put 'Walford East' in the roundel.
Lastly, slightly off topic but they don't even use a London Bus.

Most soaps are pure trash after the first few months. boring, repetitive............but millions watch them night in night out.....I think that says a great deal about the average TV viewer. Like most things in TV and films everything is written around a basic tried and tested formula. Some directors are good enough to create new variations on a theme but they are perhaps the exception to the rule and of course they are all bound by the producers who hold the purse strings.

It's always infuriating to people with a particular interest when TV and film makers get details like this all mixed up. I have exactly the same problem with programs featuring WWII aircraft which are nearly always 100% inaccurate. However, what we have to remember here is that if it were possible to stand 90% of the EastEnders viewer-ship on a LUL platform and drive all the different stocks past them one at a time, they probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and probably wouldn't care even if they could. I suspect that the makers of EastEnders are aware of this situation and therefore weight their production towards using the most cost effective means, regardless of accuracy or the feelings of the District Dave Forum, to illustrate their ghastly, miserable, grief ridden and absurdly unbelievable stories........

Perhaps they take inspiration for the scenes from the East London Line, when 38 stock ran on it?

I notice the DMI seems to say **STAND BACK, TRAIN APPROACHING** in the background - guess the train was held outside the station until the right moment for them How I miss the sounds of the 95 stock though!
