would anyone have any pictures of old and new trains running together at the time of replacement?
also on saying that, wasnt there much complaint or arguement over the fact that the old trains were 7 car formation and that the new ones were 6 car? surely thats a step back and reducing capacity

95 cars are much longer, so not necessarily a great deal of reduction in capacity

95 cars are much longer, so not necessarily a great deal of reduction in capacity I think that the overall train length is a few meters shorter for the '95 stock (106.2m) compared to the '59 (~110m from 4 x 52' 2 5/16" DM and 3 x 51' 2 3/16" T/NDM). The longer cars give a gain in capacity, because less space is lost in between the cars. The '59 stock also had two cabs in the middle of the formations and more passenger space would probably be gained here than lost in the slightly shorter trains.

It loads perfectly here. It's at the bottom of this page, should that work: www.squarewheels.org.uk/rly/stock/1959tubeStock/95 cars are much longer, so not necessarily a great deal of reduction in capacity I think that the overall train length is a few meters shorter for the '95 stock (106.2m) compared to the '59 (~110m from 4 x 52' 2 5/16" DM and 3 x 51' 2 3/16" T/NDM). The '59 stock also had two cabs in the middle of the formations and more passenger space would probably be gained here than lost in the slightly shorter trains. I believe the 59ts also had transverse seating, which steals a bit of pax capacity (less standing, standing takes less space than sitting).

The picture doesn't load for anyone else (unless they've seen the page before) because squarewheels has disabled hotlinking - so you can't steal the picture for other sites. For you it is in your cache cause you looked at that page, so it is loading

Remember that the 7 car 59ts did not fit in many of the platforms, so in order to use OPO trains that fitted the platforms (with longer cars) was the only way to increase capacity.
