Why were some trailers in Bakerloo 3 car units numbered 75xx and not in the normal series?

According to Piers Connors in "The 1938 Tube Stock" (Capital Transport, 1989), the "58 trailers" were numbered 70513 to 70570. In this case, the "58" refers to the number of cars, not the planned year of introduction.
These were 58 trailer cars of pre-1938 "standard" stock, built in 1927, that were modified to run with the 1938 stock. They were presumably a bit of a nuisance in service, as they did not have the end single doors.
They were not restricted to 3-car units: Connors' book has a photo of one in a 4-car unit.

Well done you've got it,that's why they were the first to go when scrapping started.

I thought you were looking for information. If it's a quiz, shouldn't it be under that thread?
Anyway, here's one for you: why did the series start with 70513? What were the first 12 (or 13 if they started at 70500) cars? I don't know the answer, but maybe you do.

They started at 75013 because the original car number was 7513 and all they did was put zero in the middle. They did that with all of them.

Apparently the 58 trailers had some trouble with the doors too. Every so often they would fly open in the tunnels. It was proved the door circuits were not energised, and one worker apparently kicked a door valve in frustration... at which the doors flew open - the valves were being opened by vibrations.
Quick Q were the Standard Stock trailers inserted into 60TS units "58 trailers", or others converted similarly?

No,the standard trailers on 60TS were reclaimed from units displaced when 59TS was introduced on the Central.

Yes, the story is told in Connors' book. The problem was discovered after 21 cars were in service and "caused near panic amongst the management". When the solution was found, the cars were withdrawn one Friday night, had stiffer mounting brackets fitted over the weekend, and were back in service Monday morning. I wonder how long it would take to implement such a modification these days??
