From "Staff travel during the Olympic and Paralympic Games" on LUL Intranet
"Waterloo & City line: expected to be busy throughout the Games, with some additional demand from spectators travelling to Games venues in the east. Service will be revised to operate additionally on Sundays during the games and will run to 01.00 every night (02.00 during the opening ceremony). The weekday peaks will be reduced slightly also in frequency."
That is an early enough finish for W&C TOps to get back to Leytonstone to book off.
The 03:30 finish is opening ceremony only, I'm guessing running last trains two hours later than normal (last WB from Stratford 02:12 to West Rusilip arr 03:10, last EB from Stratford 2:49 to Epping, goes in Loughton sidings 03:30)
For the rest of the Olympics it will be 02:30 finishes, just deduct an hour from the above.
As I mentioned earlier we currently are struggling to cover the current timetable a sit is, we won’t be getting more than about a dozen extra TOps before the summer and this will just divert numbers away from the Main onto the W&C. If the suits up at 55 believe we’re going to have enough staff to be able to run the enhanced service then they are living in La-la-land.

The talks on the Implementation of the Trains Functional Council Olympic Agreement are now well underway and during April there will be ‘Road Shows’ at every depot so that all representatives, management and administrative staff understand the process. Included in these Road Shows will be guidance on how to allocate duties. This guidance will, once finalised, will be distributed to everyone. Initial estimates on duties working past 01:30 are similar, at your depot, to the number of duties working past 00:30. It is estimated that at weekends between 50 and 75% of duties will be over 8 hours (that is between 8 and 9 hours). The following is a rough and ready reckoner on what will be paid on top of your salary each time you work one of these duties: Original Duty Allocated Duty Pay Calculation Money in Addition to Salary 7 hours 12 minutes (Opening Ceremony) 8 hour duty / post 01:30 finish 7.2 x £25.38 = £182.74 8 x £25.38 = £203.04 0.8 x £31.77 = £25.42 £411.19 4 hours (Opening Ceremony) 8 hour duty / post 01:30 finish 7.2 x £25.38 = £182.74 8 x £25.38 = £203.04 4 x £31.77 = £127.08 £512.86 7 hours 12 minutes Monday – Friday 8 hour duty / finishes after 01:30 8 x £25.38 = £203.04 0.8 x £31.77 = £25.42 £228.46 4 hours Monday – Friday 8 hour duty / finishes after 01:30 8 x £25.38 = £203.04 4 x £31.77 = £127.08 £330.12 7 hours 12 minutes Saturdays and Sundays 9 hour duty / finishes before 01:30 9 x £25.38 = £228.42 1.8 x £31.77 = £57.19 £285.61 4 hours (some depots have them) Saturdays and Sundays 9 hour duty / finishes before 01:30 9 x £25.38 = £228.42 5 x £31.77 = £158.85 £387.27 7 hours 12 minutes Saturdays and Sundays 9 hour duty / finishes after 01:30 9 x £31.77 = 285.93 1.8 x £31.77 = £57.19 £343.12 4 hours (some depots have them) Saturdays and Sundays 9 hour duty / finishes after 01:30 9 x £31.77 = £285.93 5 x £31.77 = £158.85 £444.78 Every train operator will also receive a £500 payment. Additionally the Company is also offering £20 for every day you attend; for train operators doing just 5 days a week this is an additional £400. However depending on your shift patterns and duties this could be as much a £500. Following the Olympics there will be the £100 CSS bonus making a potential total of £1,000 This information is from the ASLEF web site. www.aslef.org.uk/shared_asp_files/GFSR.asp?NodeID=132461

Pointless post. We don't have enough TOps on the Central Line to run the current timetable, we've got about a dozen in training and when you add the extra shifts on the W&C coming out of Leytonstone we'll have even less to stick on the Main.
BTW I will not be working the Opening Ceremnony as Morrissey is playing in Manchester that night. Some things are worth far more than filthy lucre.

The point is this a deal between a Union and Management to get the extra shifts, covered by train staff to work overtime and longer shifts to cover the work.
Are you telling us that no train staff will not work overtime, or the longer duties, if this is the case why have the union agreed to this deal with management ?

You’ve misunderstood. There will be 9 hour duties on weekends only and we will be working past the normal 01:30 close of traffic but there will be no voluntary overtime or rest day working and we will still be working the same number of hours per week as we do at the moment.
The good news is that I've just checked the boards and there are now 24 new TOps training on the Central Line with another 3 just starting. The bad news is that they will be split between 5 depots and today we had 12 uncovered shifts at my depot alone.

As some one who works a 12 week roster with the same numbers of hours each day, its a lot less complex issue.

Just received a document containing Olympic/Paralympic First & Last train times. Last W&C times on Olympic Opening Ceremony Day (27/7) are 0200 (E/B) and 0207 (W/B). BTW last Central Line trains from Stratford that day are 0125 (W/B) and 0249 (E/B).

The current last EB is an Epping at 00:49 so the EB service could be essentially the same except running two hours later. The 01:25 WB doesn’t have enough time to do Ealing Broadway and back to White City before the suggested close of traffic at 03:30 so I’m guessing that will be a West Ruislip. Still haven’t seen the duty rosters so no idea how they are going to make this work, not sure if there will be enough time to get the last W&C driver back to Leytonstone to book off after stabling at Waterloo or if they are going to put on a night shift.

The duty sheets are out and from a quick look it would appear that the last W&C duty finishes by taking a train and leaving it shut down on one of the platforms at Bank about 5 minutes after the last EB Central Line train has gone with no taxi booked to take them back to Leytonstone. I think someone in timetables dept. has made a slight miscalculation.

This should be raised by your union reps with management, this is why the duty sheets are out now so that this type of issue can be sorted out before the games start.

If the duty sheets are up then the timetables are already done. The Reps are aware of the problem. Not that I ever work W&Cs if I can help it........

From today's ES:
13 June 2012
A Sunday train service last used nearly 70 years ago at the end of World War ll is to provide a major transport link during the Olympics and Paralympics.
The Waterloo & City line - known as "The Drain" - the direct one-stop link between Waterloo main line station and Bank is to open on Sundays throughout the nine week long Games.
Historically, the busy commuter route serving the Square Mile does not open on Sundays because transport chiefs say there is no demand.
Sunday services last operated regularly on Sundays between 1943 and 1947.
The Sunday service will provide a major boost for the 80,000 extra passengers a day expected to use Waterloo main line station during the Games.
It will provide spectators with direct access to the Docklands Light Railway and Central line at Bank - and onto the Olympic Stadium at Stratford - while avoiding the overcrowded and unreliable Jubilee line.
They will also avoid London Bridge - forecast to be one of the most overcrowded stations throughout the entrire Games and which commuters have been advised to avoid at all cost.
The move sparked demands for the line to operate every Sunday to provide a regular service for Londoners and visitors to the capital.
Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Lib Dem group on the London Assembly and the Assembly's transport committee, said: "Opening this short Tube line on Sundays during the Games is a welcome development.
"Transport for London (TfL) should use this opportunity to examine potential weekend demand and see whether there is a case for regularly running trains every weekend."
More than 30,000 City commuters also make the four minute trip every weekday.
Opened in 1989 "The Drain" was originally operated as a main line route, later by British Rail, and transferred to the London Underground (LU) network in 1994.
There will also be increased train services with 18 trains per hour during weekday peak times with extended operation until 1.15 am on all Olympic and Paralympic days including Sundays.
Mike Brown, LU managing director, said: "By opening up the Waterloo & City line on Sundays and running later during the Games, we will be able to provide extra capacity on an area of the network where we know there will be significant demand and interchanges between lines.
"This means we can spread the load between lines at busy pinch-points like Bank, Waterloo and London Bridge."
He warned, however: "Even so, customers need to check out their travel options now - don't adopt a 'wait and see' approach, plan ahead and check before you travel."
"The Drain" passes under the Thames and water has to be continually pumped out - just one of a number of possible reasons given for its nickname.

Today's Evening Standard? Have you got the right newspaper and can you provide a link to the article?
Where can I also read about public calls for a 7 day service?

Perhaps you didn’t notice but there is another thread, also called “Sunday Service” where this was discussed. districtdave.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wc&action=display&thread=18797Leytonstone depot provide the drivers for the W&C and after the Olympics the extra TOps that have been drafted onto the Central Line over the last month or so will be moved to the Northern Line. The only reason we will be able to run a Sunday Service on the W&C is those extra TOps, before they arrived we were cancelling trains daily due to staff shortages and once they leave we will be back in a similar predicament.

How successful was this during the Olympics\Paralympics? Are there any calls to continue it a a full 7 day service? There are plans that from June 2013, that the Waterloo and City line would see trains run later on Saturdays and run all day on Sundays. These new timetables are also linked to new timetables on the Central Line also due to take place in June 2013. This will mean additional train operator numbers for the extra services.

At the moment it'd be nice if they could just keep all of their trains working during the normal service!

It's amazing how fossilised the Drain timetable has been until recently, with Saturday morning only services long after the City stopped working on Saturday mornings (about 1965, I believe), and very early last trains on other days. A Sunday service is very welcome for those of us struggling to get from Waterloo to Liverpool St.

In my BR days on the W&C the last train Saturday was around 15:00, weekdays around 22:00.
On Saturdays the drivers were booked on to walk the tunnel to ensure safety equipment was working properly after services had finished.

An internal memo titled "Early discussions begin on new Timetables" 19 September 2012 says that with the introuduction of WTT67 on the Central Line and WTT6 on the W&C that-
"The Waterloo and City line would also extend its services to run later on Saturdays finishing at close of traffic and run all day on Sunday in line with other services on the network."
Looks like we're going to need more TOps at Leytonstone next summer, all the newbies that came up for the Olympics have gone or are going to the Northern Line.
