Although I agree Aldgate East is confusing so close to Aldgate I'm not sure 'Brick Lane' is a suitable replacement. The part of Brick Lane the tourists would want to go is the opposite end of Brick Lane and actually just round the corner of future 'Shoreditch High Street' station.
Renaming this station Brick Lane would resolve one confusion but create another IMHO.

I think the touristy bit of Brick Lane was served by Shoreditch, and Liverpool Street isn't that far from the area.
