Ladies & Gents,
Following a large number of complaints, both publically and privately, regarding content & style of posts by certain members; and given that members have either left the forum or are contemplating doing so as a direct result of the issue......
The Admin team have taken the decision to remove the ability to post on the open forum from the individuals concerned. They are still members of the forum and can access their PM's.
We hope this action will clear the cloud that is currently residing over the forum.
The Admin Team.

Standard Stock, Woodford Sidings and Roding Valley Minor if my guess is correct. In the end it doesn't really matter as they don't need to be named.......

Having trawled through this forum just now, previous members have been named (unless I read it wrong). So why not name them now? At least we will know who has been restricted so when they do start posting we can all have a bit more respect for them should we start to see an improvement in posting?
Do you know what I'm getting at or am I wrong in saying the above?

Do you know what I'm getting at or am I wrong in saying the above? On here it's when members get banned they get named and even then not always. The people concerned this time (and it isn't difficult to work out who they are if you have a scan through recent posts) haven't been banned and should therefore be spared the added punishment of a public naming. This is the procedure on the forum I occasionally moderate and it's nice to see it in operation here too.

Sometimes we make a mistake and don't spot banned members who come back with a new identity straight away. They always give themselves away in the end.

As always an eminently sensible decision from our Admin team. +1 Entirely fair, from both points of view. That's a solution that wouldn't have occurred to me. Well done to all involved.

I can't really see what point this makes to benefit the thread. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: Though the mills of God grind slowly; Yet they grind exceeding small; Though with patience he stands waiting, With exactness grinds he all.;D

I do wonder why the compromise was chosen... it's not very different from being completely banned, is it?

As a new member, perhaps you'd do well to learn a little more about the way this forum works before posting such negative remarks

I apologise if I came across as negative - I genuinely wasn't trying for that, but more of a tone of curiosity. I wasn't at all insulting or disregarding your decision, or even questioning it: solely attempting to understand it Sorry

Admin Comment:We don't discuss how we reach a particular decision openly with the membership - that is solely a matter between the forum staff and the member we're dealing with. We do sometimes make a 'punishment' public knowledge and this is usually because either much of what occurred leading up to a 'punishment' was in full view of the entire membership, or followed a number of complaints directed at the forum staff. The idea is to make it known that we did listen/notice, and to show that we have acted and what we did to resolve the situation. Generally speaking we only tend to name & shame where we've been deliberately deceived, insulted, ignored or so that our members can help keep an eye out for us. You'll see such an example very soon I suspect In essence though, we approach and treat each incidence we deal with individually on its own merits; so things might not always be as completely clear cut or obvious as they appear. All I would say in closing is that if you've reached the stage whereby you are dealing with the admin team rather than our moderators, this forum probably isn't the place for you.

I'm sorry that I sometimes seem like I have an attitude I don't - I am not very good at all at conveying emotion with only text

That is something we all struggle with from time to time - its amazing how much of an effect facial expressions and tone have on speech.
