Aah the new DLR platforms. Hooray, we can have a more frequent service on the northern end of the DLR, boo that it now means we have to walk further at Stratford to get to the mainline.

I think the second platform is opening in July or August, lets hope it gets used more than the second platform at Lewisham.

I think the second platform is opening in July or August, lets hope it gets used more than the second platform at Lewisham. The second platform at Lewisham is seldom used because of the way the DLR is timetabled and operated. As far as I'm aware the signalling system usually tries to reverse all trains in one platform, with dwell times of only around a minute or so. Only if that platform is still occupied is a train routed into the other platform. This is in contrast to usual terminus operations where trains alternate between platforms. Aah the new DLR platforms. Hooray, we can have a more frequent service on the northern end of the DLR, boo that it now means we have to walk further at Stratford to get to the mainline. Doesn't the single track section need to be doubled before that can happen? The second platform could increase capacity even with the single track section remaining, as the new capacity limit is the travelling time from Pudding Mill Lane to Stratford x 2, whilst the old capacity limit was travelling time from Pudding Mill Lane to Stratford x 2 + dwell time at Stratford.

I wonder if the new western entrance at Stratford will be built to help service the new DLR station - the existing eastern entrance is constantly rammed with all of the cross traffic going up and over the NLL to reach the Jubilee.

Looking across Friday morning, there seemed to be an entrance leading to the new platforms on the mezanine floor.Should get rid of the sometimes dangerous instances of people rushing to and from the DLR just as a ONE train arrives on platform 5.

Still punters trying to get to platform 4 this morning even though notices had been up for at least a week.
