When 96001 was pulling into Stratford I noticed 96001 had new LED headlights. Its just left West Ham if anyone wants to see it, on the Stratford end

I thought I saw a 96 stock with LED lights the other day. Glad I'm not going mad - yet ;D

Yep, 96080 also has them I believe - another fleet-wide mod probably. @ Metman - no, you saw right. ASDS (A Stock Deficiency Syndrome) hasn't got to you yet ;D ;D

It has! I keep seeing trains out of the corner of my eye and for a split second I think it's an A stock. Of course it's an S8!

Looking back at my 'moves' from today, turns out 96080 was paired with 96001

In that case, I wonder if it a 'trial', pending a fleet-wide modification. I'm sure it will all come out in the wash.

I seem to recall reading a circular which stated these are being rolled out to the whole fleet following a successful trial. Hope they don't spread to the Northern Line, much prefer conventional headlights!

Unit 96116 has LED Headlights, with what looks like a black line half way down each light.

You can bet your life that it will spread to the Northern, as the trains are almost identical, and with TBTC fast approaching too! In saying that, it took several years for the Jubilee to adopt the large white car numbers on the front grey section at solebar level .....

I thought you saw a train with new LED destination blinds! LOL. Well it would be cool, as the Jubilee advances. But keep the Northern different from the Jubilee, don't apply headlights like that on the Northern and that will cause confusion due to the same appearance of the stock (for new people).

Personally I dislike the cold white/blue tone of LED headlights. New mainline trains use a bulb that isn't halogen or a standard bulb but it retains the warmer colour of a bulb but the colour is a little off, how would this do on LU?

For the colour, is there any research done regarding which is the optimum colour to do the job headlights are there to do (enabled drivers to see track-side signs and alert people on-or-about the line and at stations to the presence of a train, iirc.)? If so, they should be made in that colour regardless of looks (LEDs come in a range of colour temperatures). If not, then surely this should be conducted ahead of the introduction of the next new design of train?

I can confirm that 96037 and 96081 also have new lights. Does the trial extend to LED trail lights or do the 1996 stock already have these?

LEDs are gradually being fitted to 96TS but will be done over time rather than as an immediate fleet mod. 95TS are getting similar headlights to the current Jubilee fleet (i.e. not LED) to help with visibility for forthcoming TBTC degraded mode signage.
