Tradition dictates that the Christmas Social this year will be held on the weekend of the 12thDecember.
More details will follow in due course, but members can expect something similar to the usual format.

Including a quiz if people let me know sufficiently far in advance that they want one.

I've put this in my diary so assuming there's no unforeseen difficulties between now and then I'll be seeing you all. Chris M, can you make the questions easier this time so I can win? Pictures of fish or guitars to identify, that sort of thing.....

I was pondering that last night en-route home from the O2 having seen Wally-brain, Hamster and May. We have a general idea.... expect things to be District D-stocky related (final year to enjoy them) + visiting a hostelry that serves a combination of fermented grains, fruits or vegetables, which we'll finalise upstairs and get back to you all

No mention of custard - should we be concerned? XF For some really bizarre reason, I misread that as the evolution of custard

The discussion upstairs has agreed that based upon there being no District closures that day, we have a free reign to enjoy a hassle free trip along the green line... The consensus is that we meet up outside the main entrance to Tower Hill station for 11am (not the exit on the corner), heading due west, towards Ealing Broadway. I suggested that we could either find our way to a hostelry direct via the Central, or alternatively via the District (perhaps to South Kensington) and then towards Holborn via the Piccadilly. A distinct anti-Centralist movement then raised its head in the form of: That sounds fine to me Chris as long as we avoid the Central Line back to Holborn! Followed by: Piccadilly option sounds good. Proper trains all day and all that! With Tut replying with a mature: Bah! Whistlekiller200 helpfully replied with: Don't worry, we get to use it at the dignified end anyway.... To which I thoughtfully responded: An easy solution.... - Cut in half
- Stand on end
- Its now a rubbish bin
Oh hang on.... I didn't think that through.... they leak !!! There's always a bit of a Farage at the bottom !!! So there you have it... - Meet up at Tower Hill outside the main entrance for 11am
- We'll head west towards Ealing Broadway on the first available D stock
- Returning due south east to South Kensington
- Making our way to the Penderel's Oak via the Piccadilly to Holborn
- Then enjoy some obligatory chatter, lunch and beer/wine/cider
Normal rules apply... YOUNGER MEMBERSAny members under 18: we do ask that you carry emergency contact details with you, have parental consent (or even better, bring them along too) and some form of identity. For parents peace of mind, those working within the transport industry are CRB checked. Long established members may also know that my wife and I have adopted children.... I've been CRB checked so many times that I've lost count FORUM PHONEDetails of the number members can dial will be announced in the coming few days I'm aware that MoretoJack, Rincew1nd, DomK and Rich32 can't make it... however I'll be there and I also understand that Whistlekiller2000 will be too - aka baldies united. Who else will be joining me/us

(Been a while since I got on the tube at Tower Hill) I'm planning to be along for both parts. Edit to ask: I'm aware there's been building work in the area for some time. Does anyone know if this is still going on and if this in any way alters how to get to Tower Hill from Fenchurch Street please?

Its around the corner from my memory, rather than opposite... although it depends upon which way you're approaching the station I suppose However the forum staff would like to apologise at this point for misleading members: I should be there hangover permitting from the work Xmas party the night before!! Go on... who dares to post in the upstairs creche now I'll be fair to staff and say here and now... enough is enough re me re-reposting comments from Mods or Admins. There will be a few of us around... and we hope to say hello and share a beer or 3 with fellow members... especially new ones.

Your memory serves you correctly, there is a single-storey entrance building and a rather taller exit building opposite.
It's been a while since I've been near Fenchurch Street so I can't help with the second query

If people would like a quiz, then say so on this thread. I can do a 'traditional' single image with many parts, or the many single part question style I did for the last meet in the city barge (the latter will be signs again, as that will take the least effort).

That's very kind and as you're supposed to be on annual leave from quizzes I'd advise the path of least resistance Chris! Whatever's easiest for you will be fine, I'm sure everyone will agree!

Shall I be the first to get my excuse in then?
Unfortunately, I will be on a train back from Nottingham ,carrying bags of dirty laundry (as is the way with students) and several other bulky items, which would make it somewhat impractical to come and meet you all, which is a great shame! I look forward to the date when I actually make it to one of these meets!

Dom, any decent student would have set fire to his dirty laundry along with his flat and rusting bicycle prior to presenting himself on parade for the great District Line Dalliance. What a disgrace........

Now you mention it, I think I can - crosswords? I don't think that I'll have time to create one like that this time but I've made a note for the future.

Not that I wish to delay or foreshorten any on-train junketings, but is there a suggested ETA at the usual hostelry? I will try and pop in for some sherbettage.

I deliberately didn't want to gaze into my crystal ball and suggest a time... simply because we'll be going by D stock traction and if half a dozen S7s turn up at Tower Hill in a row, then we'd be somewhat delayed.
However I'd guess that we'd be on site by 2pm at the latest... and TBH I'd be surprised if it was much later than 1pm
Wouldst thy fair lady be joining thee ??

Just wondering, are we doing Ealing Broadway regardless or will we alter the plan if a load of s stock does rock up, but followed by a D going somewhere other than Ealing? (Not that I'm phased about where we end up riding D stock to, but just so I'm aware)
