For those not taking part in the morning excursion, then we shall gather from 1300 in the Penderel's Oak. Details of a 'forum phone' will be circulated nearer the date, or just look for the custard! I don't fancy trying to ring custard. I'm not sure it would pick up!

Is there a particular member of staff that we should contact if we have further questions please? Send them my way. If any recurring points emerge then I'll write an FAQ.

Thank you to all members who have expressed an interest in what promises to be an interesting and unique excursion. The forum staff will review all those who have expressed an interest in coming along and send out (by email and PM) some 'joining instructions' and further details of the excursion. We will also contact (by PM) those who have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
Due to the unique nature of the tour it's unclear when the participants will arrive at the Penderel's Oak for the second part of our social; tradition dictates that members officially gather for beverages from 2pm.

I am preparing a bonus quiz for the meet but will need volunteer to do the printing as I wont be able to do that this year. Please be aware that there will be at least 23 pages of colour and a small number of colour or black and white pages. If you would like to volunteer please contact me by PM and let me know the latest date you will need the images by (Tuesday 6 December is the earliest that will be possible for me).

I now have a volunteer who is able to make the meet, so postage isn't required this year. Thanks for the offer though.

Are forum staff aware that this is the same day as the London SantaCon?
As such, are there any aspects of the meet that could change on the day please?
(That's about as much as I'm going to ask in public, if there are any staff that want clarification as to why I'm asking, please obviously feel free to PM)

This will not be the first year the two events have coincided, and I'm not aware that there have been any changes in plan necessitated previously. This is though the first year the pre-pub event will be taking place in zone 1 though.

SantaCon, AFAIK, has been on the same day as the Forum Xmas meet every year so far.

SantaCon, AFAIK, has been on the same day as the Forum Xmas meet every year so far. It could be the last chance to see a D Stock Santa in operational service this Christmas so let's make the most of it.

Members allocated a place on the tour have been sent an email from districtdavesforum@gmail.com confirming their place and asking for some further information, for those unfortunate not to gain a place you should have received a PM.
If anybody thinks they should have received a message and they haven't then please drop me a PM and I'll look into.

Hi All,
My apologies for my absence from ther DD Forum for most of the year this was due to my partner Jan being taken ill with a very serious illness which I am now pleased to report that Jan is now making a good recovery from thanks to some great people in both the public and private health services.
I look forward to catching up with you all on Saturday
Nigel.

Regrettably I won't be able to make it as the Reading 0gauge trade show has shifted dates from 3 Dec to 10 Dec.
Have a great day!

I have prepared a the bonus quiz for this event, and it takes the form of a crossword of station names with the clues images of the stations. I am unsure though how many copies of the answer grid will be required at the meet? In the absence of any comments to the contrary here I will ask MoreToJack, who has kindly volunteered to organise the printing, for 5 copies but this is a complete stab in the dark so suggestions of different numbers are most welcome. Chris

Is there a link to it you could share Chris, then people can print their own and/or play along at home.

I will be putting the links up for people to play at home on the day as usual. I must admit that I hadn't thought about people printing their own grid in advance to bring with them - part of me is reluctant to do that too soon as it (of necessity) gives some clues as to the stations involved however another part of me wonders whether it is possible to fill in the grid with none of the pictures (and if so, whether there is only one correct answer or multiple possibilities). I need to think a bit more about that - opinions welcome!

I would welcome being able to print out a blank grid without any picture clues on it. I am definitely looking forward to this year's quiz.

For those members who make the effort to be there (in some instances from quite the distance!), it seems to be the fairest and best way. For those attending, I hope you all have a cracking day!

Ok I've set it up so that the grid will be released at 11pm on Friday, while the images will not go live until 1pm on Saturday. This should allow anyone who is coming to the meet time to print off a copy if they want to bring one while not giving too much of a head-start. There are some unmodified versions of images, and these will remain embargoed until the Sunday.
All the links will be in a thread in the quiz area, which I'll create on or before Friday.

For those of you going directly to the pub...I am planning to be at the Penderels Oak from around 1pm. I'll have the forum phone with me, so feel free to call or text if you can't find the group or the pub! The pub is pretty easy to find - from Holborn station, turn right along High Holborn. If you pass Krispy Kreme on your right then you're heading in the right direction. When you pass Starbucks (on your left), you're almost there; the pub is on your right. You can also turn left out of Chancery Lane station, pass Nat West and the 3 store on your left, then Starbucks on your right. The pub will be on your left. The forum phone is 07930 942179.Looking forward to seeing whoever turns up!

Upstairs (i.e. street level) the basement at Pendrell's Oak is not open reliably.

I've not been a particularly regular visitor recently owing to trying (and largely failing) to avoid being too distracted by the existence of the internet at work. It happens that I was planning on popping into London tomorrow anyway, so will replace my plans for a random gallivant with a visit to the pub instead. Have fun in the super secret location.
