The intention remains for Hammersmith-Latimer Road to switch over this weekend. The last train to operate exclusively under conventional signalling on the SSR should be T204, stabling Hammersmith sidings at ~0115.

Well it didn't last long - going back to legacy signalling overnight tonight.
Seems to me they probably shouldn't have tried to push ahead this weekend but hey ho.
New date for ya diaries is 21st/22nd July.

They'd have canned it first thing this morning if they wanted to avoid negativity. 90 minute late start up and known issues with VOBC tags. It's no surprise that trains are losing over an hour on the Hammersmith branch.

I thought there hadn't been any announcements regarding a successful switch over (but of course nothing about any problems either)

...a real shame the commissioning has been delayed again... No it isn't! 😅 I still wouldn't be surprised if we're still signalling trains at Hammersmith until the end of the Summer.

Is this just displayed to the train op', or is it visible externally? Just for the train op now days. The photo shows the indication nestled at the bottom of the SID (Signal Interface Display), since the SSR fleet has had ATO mods this layout has changed somewhat. Photo below has been cropped from the original for ease of viewing. flic.kr/p/FyqPURNew version of S Stock SID:

I think I am right in saying that today will see the first engineering train operate on the network under CBTC signalling, albeit still in a test area. T640, formed L18+L17, ran to Hammersmith sidings yesterday ahead of test operations today. The two yellow boxes either side of the 'M' door are the CBTC antennae. clickyAlso of note, today sees the largest test area of CBTC to date - Edgware Road (OP) signal cabin has been 'switched out' for the first time, as has partial control of Baker Street SCC. Trains will be cycling through the entirety of SMA 0.5, 1 and 2, from Hammersmith/Paddington (Circle) to Euston Square, but not Finchley Road to Baker Street. Is anyone able to state if more than L17 and L18 have been 4LM CBTC fitted? I used to see battery locos fairly regulary but almost never now, so I don't get to look for the tell tale boxes. -- Nick

d7666 , At the time of the last Programmes/Investment Report listed on the 3rd of July stated that, "We have installed ATC equipment on six engineering trains, work on the seventh has begun and we plan to complete all 50 by the end of 2019". I think from memory the batteries were 29 or 30 in number so I think that quote references other vehicles that may need to travel under ATC as a communicating train (track tampers springs to mind).

Sorry, I'm not trying to be pedantic here - I just looked at this thread for the first time today, and can't understand what is meant by 'the Hammersmith branch'. (Probably because I didn't read the thread from which this was split.) I cannot identify any piece of railway that would qualify as 'Hammersmith branch'. Unless you mean all the District line going west from Earl's Court that does not go to Wimbledon. Or possibly the HC&C line from Edgeware Road. But I used most of the services from Hammersmith and apart from some 5 min waits at Edgeware Road itself I can't think of anywhere that trains could be losing over an hour. The services just aren't that unreliable. It may just be the heat making me extra dense. ETA: I'm assuming the Piccadilly line does not count as a branch as there's no other line west through Hammersmith.

MoreToJack was indeed talking about the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines from Edgware Road to Hammersmith. The post was about the service on Saturday 23rd June, which was completely, shall we say, messed up. This was during trial running of the new CBTC signalling on that part of the line (specifically Latimer Road to Hammersmith). Trains on the branch were not in revenue service at that time, though they entered revenue service once off the branch and were very much all out of sorts. The attempt to switch to CBTC failed, the branch is currently back in the hands of real signals rather than the miracle automagical stuff that will take over.

Interestingly I was affected by the outage of the HC&C that weekend and was well pi^h^h vexed with tfl* as at exactly the same time as they nulled the SBM (Shepherd's Bush Market) to Hammersmith (amongst other) part of the line, they licensed a crane to operate in Shepherd's bush road and so that was closed, and the alternative 283 SBM to Hammersmith route was disrupted. And all for nowt, it appears. [OT] * Apart from the above, why is it that they can send me a weekly: "There's going to be a strike/Oh no there isn't/Oh yes there is/BEHIND YOU" email, but never send emails giving advanced notice of partial line closures? I always thought that pointing out misspellings and grammatical errors was frowned upon. Not that I mind. I prefer if someone lets me know when I get something wrong. In lord knows how many years of seeing the name it never registered that there was no 'e' in it.

No 'E' in Edgware? (I might as well join in the fun!) Now, I actually thought about that, carefully, as I wrote it. There is no 'e' in 'Edgware', just one on each end. And I had to go back and edit the above line to remove the superfluous 'e' that I'd typed between the 'g' and the 'w'. doh! ETA (edited to add) Sorry, was typing this when the above post was sent so didn't see it until too late. [/OPFFTOPIC]
