Hello all,
I'm getting ready to finish up my studies in civil engineering this December and I was wondering if there were any engineers on the forums that do track design or signalling or overhead catenary or anything related to railways who wouldn't mind having a chat about the field, what they do and any general career advice. I figured there might be some of those folk on this forum.

I'm getting ready to finish up my studies in civil engineering this December Could you clarify what you mean by this? Are you completing a degree or some other qualification? I was wondering if there were any engineers on the forums that do track design or signalling or overhead catenary or anything related to railways who wouldn't mind having a chat about the field, what they do and any general career advice. HWMBO CEng MICE (my partner) is a Principal Drainage Engineer at Atkins/SNC Lavalin; he's currently working as a CRE (Contractor's Responsible Engineer) on various phases of the north-west electrification programme. If drainage is something you're interested in I can arrange for you two to have a conversation. Edit to add: Whilst his specialism is drainage, he knows about the rail design industry and the general civil engineering world too!

I'm graduating with a bachelors degree in civil engineering for an American public university.
While I'm not so much interesting in drainage I'd appreciate any conversation about the U.K. market and rail design. I'm in a unique position where I could work in the US or UK and I wanted some perspective on the UK market.
