ianvisits has posted an infographic from TfL's Programmes and Investments Committee board meeting papers ( link, may require a Facebook login, snoggle may know how to find a direct version). This includes many statistics about TfL's assets by mode, but what caught my eye was the number of escalators for DLR and London Overground. DLR has 30 escalators apparently, and London Overground is ascribed 3 - but I can't work out where these are. The only escalators to London Overground platforms I can think of are at Canada Water, but I think there are more than 3 at that station? As for the DLR, I can think of 6 at Bank that could be the DLR's, 2 at Woolwich, 2 at Limehouse, 2 at Custom House*, 2 at Stratford International, 2 at London City Airport and 6 at Canary Wharf. There are some (2? 4?) to the high level DLR platforms at Canning Town, but I'm pretty certain this is a London Underground-managed station, and while there are a some escalators at Stratford I'd be surprised if these were on the DLR's asset register. This comes to about 22 (more than I would have guessed) not 30 though. *Pre-rebuild for Crossrail.

Does Pudding Mill Lane have Escalators? Don't forget Tower Gateway and Cutty Sark.

Pudding Mill Lane doesn't have escalators. Tower Gateway has 2, and iirc Cutty Sark has 4, which would put the total at 28. There are 4 at Heron Quays and 4 at South Quay that I've just remembered, making the total 36 - so some of the ones I've thought of can't be the DLR's. If the ones at Canning Town are LU's that's down to 32, and if Custom House is now entirely on Crossrail's register that would make 30.

So you've gone from not enough escalators to too many; brilliant!

Ah, but still I've seen no one mention that East India has one escalator for each platform!

Ah this is like Karma for all those quiz questions - seeing Chris M stumped! (I only wish I knew the answer though . . .)

Are there actually any at Limehouse? In all the times I've used that station I've only ever seen stairs.

I think the two Overground escalators you're looking for are at Rotherhithe, unless anything's changed since it reopened in 2010.

Next question is how do they get a figure of 20 lifts for the Overground?
Imperial Wharf (2), Shepherds Bush (2), Willesden Jn (2), Kensal Rise (1), Hampstead Heath (2), Gospel Oak (2), Camden Road (2), Caledonian Road (2), Canonbury (3), Hackney Central (2). That is 20 before you even start looking at the ELL and West Anglia.

Technically speaking you've already touched the ELL with Canonbury
