I can see the point of regulating the service ie holding a train to even out the gap behind. But, given that most Southbound passengers are heading to Victoria for a main line connection why was a train held at Green Park for over 5 Mins at around 23:30? I’m fairly sure that some people missed their onward connection.

Maybe the train in front was stuck at Victoria, and its better to hold a train in a station than in a tunnel. Just guessing, though, don't know if that's the case here

It wasn’t the train in front, because the driver made it clear that it was a problem behind the one we were on. As for leaving it fine the Victoria line tens to be so good that tight connections are generally made.

It is very frustrating to be on a particular train in a particular location, but that train is part of a bigger picture of the entire line. Maybe the line controller was juggling many balls in the air at the time... And might not (by virtue of the fact that the line controller is a human being!) have considered every eventuality for every passenger on every train that was held...

I have come upon this frequently on the buses - because the timing point is at a major interchange, they wait for time at the previous one to avoid presenting there early, which affects their performance targets. Usual problem (like short workings or skip-stopping) of controllers thinking of the vehicles under their control per se, rather than as a group of people.

Other related things which don't make much sense are a bus stopping at a timing point to wait for scheduled time, then going one stop further and parking up whilst the drivers swap over. Or one bus/train being cancelled, the following one showing up slightly early, then being held - even though, effectively, it is the one in front. Agree though, 5 minutes cuts it fine. |

Just had a look at trackernet's replayer, the train held at Green Park was 231, the next train was 214 at Warren Street which was also held and behind that was 251 at Tottenham Hale, that must have been the train with the problem. In front 230 was held when it got to Pimlico.

Just checked WTT 41, train 232 should have been running ahead of 251 but for some reason it was behind.
251 arrived at Tottenham Hale at 23:26, 3 minutes late, while 230 was at Victoria, 231 was at Oxford Street and 214 was on the approach to Kings Cross.
215 left Tottenham Hale at 23:29 but 214, 231 and 230 were held until 23:38 when 251 was halfway between Highbury & Islington and Kings Cross.
