Interesting special service running today due to Engineering works. Circle line from Edgware Road to Barking via Victoria.
Have trains labelled Circle ever headed out to Barking before? I hadn't noticed any but I guess it may have happened for similar reasons.
Obviously I know they are the same trains and same drivers as the H&C so it makes little practical difference except they will be going via Minories junction instead of Aldgate Junction. Do Circle/H&C drivers have route knowledge for that? Or would District Line pilots be used for the stretch between Tower Hill and Aldgate East?

Circle / H&C drivers are signed off to work direct from Aldgate East to Tower Hill.

Every morning there are two trains at 0516 and 0532 from Barking to Edgware Road via Victoria. They used to be given a Putney Bridge TD so the computer at Baker St would route them correctly at Aldgate East then the correct TD was given at Tower Hill

Gets passengers looking for a Hammersmith & City train very confused on the westbound from Barking onwards.

I'm pretty sure that the Customer Information System (CIS) 'trip' on the trains calls the eastbound trip as District line, while the inbound from Barking towards the Circle is announced as Circle line. Maybe they are not using that special eastbound trip on the CIS if both are being called Circle. They'd have to change it from Circle to District at some point though.

Surely it can be worked using District Train Operators as they sign to Edgeware Road anyway to operate the Wimbleware service.

Unless they don't sign Gloucester Road junction to HSK?

I seem to remember there being talk, around the time the S stock was first being introduced, of training District drivers on the Gloucester Road to HSK route. I guess flexibility took a back seat to short term costs again :/

I was at Bayswater station on Saturday 13th and they had the same arrangement in place.
Much confusion ensued because the indicators promised a Circle Line service via Victoria but all the signage on the train (inside and outside) showed it as a District Line service to Barking. There were some very confused tourists unsure whether this was the train they wanted. I was able to reassure them that the train would be going to South Kensington (which of course it did).

The platform DMI’s currently can only show a hand full of destinations but when the upgrade kicks in potentially they can show anything as the information will come straight from the signalling system and not a add on so to speak with limited capacity
