I thought I'd do a short tutorial on how to use the forum '@' function on a PC. Note, if you're quoting somebody there's no real need for an '@' as they will most likely see that you've responded to them anyway, but if you want to post without quoting but would like to attract their attention then the following procedure is recommended. I've used an example from today but this in no way indicates any kind of chastisement! 😎 This is a response showing a standard '@'. This will not in itself flag somebody unless the thread has already been marked to be followed. So, to definitely gain their attention go to this part of the toolbar: Drop down from the fifth button along: This will allow you to type a name and a selection box will appear: Click on the correct name i the drop-down box and it'll appear in the text you are typing at the cursor point like this: Note that the above is the original username, if it's been changed subsequently it will appear as current but as a hyperlink in the eventual post. Hope this helps! There's probably a way of doing it differently on phones (not with the quick reply function of course as that's just a plain text editor) but the general idea is the same. EDIT: Chris M has been in touch with a helpful addition to the above despite my, some would say, harsh treatment of the Quiz Team this year! He says: 'You can also type the attention-getting @ directly. On a computer, just mouseover the username of the person you want to reply to and a black box with white text will pop up after about a second. Just type what it says in the that box, making sure not to put a space between the @ and the name. On a phone the only options I know of are either knowing the original username or clicking on the the username to read their profile and then going back to write your message. It might be different in the app, but as I don't have that I can't check.'
