Slightly off topic but were Chesham trains skipping Harrow as late as 1994? If the clips in the YouTube video were all filmed the same day it would seem to be when only the first very few production A stock Refurbs had been done, since only one is seen. That might help date it.

Adding working front and rear lights to the Bachmann 1938ts trains.
I saw this 'Underground Eric' YouTube promoted in a weekly mailing by Scale Model Scenery

That’s helpful. Eric and I share ideas quite a lot. I have to work out how to light my old EFE 1938 stock.

I'm using these for bulb lit passenger carriages (and London Transport train cars) or the natural white version for fluorescent tube lit carriages They can be cut to shorter lengths, but require you to solder the wires on them www.railwayscenics.com/flexible-strip-warm-white-2835-leds-dc12v-wide-p-3547.htmlSimilar can be bought on eBay which are prewired

So after 2 months of owning a EFE 38 stock its honestly great detailing etc however mechanism wise its really let down. Would have preferred wiper pickups and a higher speed motor owing its really slow and mine has developed a noise issue. For a bit of fun decided to do a trick to run an old trailer in the consist and yeah.....
Overall 8/10 (Love the hand bobble detailing tho)

I've recenty motorised a 1962 tube stock set using 2 Black Beetle motor bogies I imported from Australia. It was quite an easy conversion, but the 2 motor bogies struggle with a 4-car set. the EFE bogies aren't free running at all, maybe Bachman have amended the bogie design so they have pin-point axles instead of a rather heavy spring plate bearing down on the xle which acts like a brake! It now runs nicey and had some running-in on the club layout this week.

I think all the wheels / axles need replacing and top hat wheel bearings used

I picked up some 3D printed bogies a friend made and these really help.

Yes, that’s my friend! 😉
I really recommend these they have been very useful as they are an exact match for the EFE cars. All you have to do is get a 2mm drill bit and just open out the bearing holes, add a top hat bearing and fit a 10.5mm wheel set. Much easier than the Metromodels efforts!

10.5mm wheels, even for 1938ts?
Thanks for the info

No not yet. They have couple of holes in the lugs so will accept a hook and bar which is how I usually couple my stock.
The Bachmann couplings are quite fragile I’ve heard so won’t try and replicate them!

So we finally got the set working properly. One motor car could barley pull itself and a trailer car. It turned out I'd put the trailing bogie keeper plate on the wrong way so one axle was too high! It kept derailing.
Fast forward to the following week, the full 4 car set made an appearance on the club layout. The same motor coach still kept derailing. I'd got a bit of evo-stick in the wrong place and it prevented the bogie from turning!
Third week, all seemed a lot better, still slipping on the sharp curves in the hidden loops of the club layout. More lead added to both motor coaches. Let's see how it performs this week at the club!
