Since there are plenty of stations not on viaducts that you still go to up the trains for, I thought it was worth asking.
How about Shadwell DLR as the only "step-free" accessible station from the set?

No, it's not about the architecture or facilities of the stations

Im not sure if my previous guess of odd one out was missed but I'll refine my answer. Shadwell is not in between two interchange stations! Wapping :3

Shadwell DLR is between two interchange stations (Limehouse and Bank/Tower Gateway) so that is not the answer

All the others consist of two words? (Seems too simple!)

All apart from Shadwell are one stop away from a Circle Line interchange?

Close, but Shadwell is also one stop from Circle line interchange at Bank-Monument

The are all one stop east of an interchange with National Rail except Shadwell which is one stop west of an interchange with National Rail?
I originally had an Overground thought but that doesn't fit with Bethnal Green (all one stop from an overground interchange except shadwell which is an overground interchange)...

Close, but Shadwell is also one stop from Circle line interchange at Bank-Monument True! I keep forgetting about the DLR... So - the three are all deep level tube stations one stop removed from a SSL interchange? Or the three have no interchange themselves but are all one stop removed from an interchange?

How about all are one stop away from a Metropolitan Railway interchange and these interchange stations remain served by SSL except Shadwell which transferred to London Overground?

The are not all one stop from the Metropolitan line and none of the four are SSL stations.

How about: they are all, apart from Shadwell, deep level tube stations one stop removed from a National Rail interchange?

Sorry, yes we'll go with that as the answer I originally had turns out to be mistaken.

I still dont get the link but it seems like Hammersmith may have been a better fit as an OSI, or West Hampstead.
