RMT union balloted Piccadilly line members for "Reduced Driver Training". This related to re-training drivers to enter and exit South Harrow sidings whenever they are open again. It was felt that briefings were sufficient but the union wanted all drivers to physically drive a train in and out with an instructor. Number of individuals who were entitled to vote in the ballot: 373 Number of votes cast in the ballot: 162 Number of individuals answering “Yes” to the question: 129 Number of individuals answering “No” to the question: 31 Number of spoiled or otherwise invalid voting papers returned: 2 The turnout threshold of 50% was not reached. How long have South Harrow sidings been shut?

Closed July 2021 for construction work to increase from 6 to 12 roads. Was supposed to have partially opened before the end of last year but issues with flooding and equipment lead times have delayed matters.

The working of the sidings has stopped the same . Same route in same route out it's just there in a different position and more of them . Anyone that has come to the line since they were closed are being fully trained the rest are being given a briefing and video to watch. Of course if your still not confident after that there is nothing stopping you asking for additional training and /or getting a pilot person if you ever have to go in or out of there

Surely anyone who hasn't done a specific move in 6 months can get a "pilot" (I'll check my rulebook)

Surely anyone who hasn't done a specific move in 6 months can get a "pilot" (I'll check my rulebook) Strictly speaking, yes. There are occasions during disruption where trains are reversed at little used reversing points, Down Street being one of them where the majority of drivers haven't been for years. I guess they will be within their rights to ask for a pilot, you'll be pushed to find one at Green Park Station and if it means being short tripped with the possibility of a cut away, the majority may just remember how to accept a shunt signal and stop at the stopping mark :-)

being short tripped with the possibility of a cut away,
Untangling the language- does that mean having the train stopped short of the planned termination point and the driver being sent home? Or something else?

Untangling the language- does that mean having the train stopped short of the planned termination point and the driver being sent home? In essence, yes. To "cut away" means to be sent home earlier than the booked finish time. As for the original point of this thread, its a sensible outcome to be honest. We had something similar many years ago at Upminster where a union rep insisted drivers be physically shown a couple of new roads in the depot which ran adjacent to already existing roads. The rep was asked "do you seriously want drivers to walk along a 120 metre straight piece of walkway alongside a straight road that they already stable on? "Yes" demanded the rep. In the end the resolution was that drivers could request to be physically shown it if they wanted. How many drivers requested to be physically shown it? Yep, you guessed it, none!
