Renovation of CLR works

After several drive-bys on the H&C, it's quite obvious now that the old CLR buildings are being re-roofed and renovated, but for what purpose?

I also noticed that the new depot entrance appears to be progressing nicely - what are the estimates for the eventual demolition of White City Depot?

Allegedly, Multiplex the contractor building White City complex are paying out 15% of the £600 million project costs to LUL for the new 16 siding depot. This includes paying for the BCV infrastructure protection engineers permanently based on site to oversee the work.

Multiplex are already taking a massive loss with Wembley Stadium, the Aussies other UK operation.

CLR = Central London Railway; it's original name when the line opened from Shepherds Bush to Bank in 1900

Sorry I couldn't tell you as I took that photo during a flying visit...But I believe the building would be next to the XXXXXX XXXX entrance.

edb there are lots of avenues into railway engineering at different levels be it engineer, technician or managerial. The client organisations LUL, Metronet/Tube Lines, Network Rail etc employ people at all levels (Metronet have inherited a very good apprenticeship scheme from LUL). Other than that, there are many specialist firms who offer their services to the above.

However, to get into the industry, having relevant qualifications is the norm.

It doesn't seem that hard to find out though, I think this is the area it is [obv. edited for some kind of extra security] but I'm not completely sure [being a non-company man]

Ok my apologies . Even though information like this is accesible on the 'net there is no reason why we shouldn't be acting more responsibly here.

Back on topic, however, I was taken into the old power station building and the interior was completely gutted with excavation work deep below the foundations.

While I agree about keeping the control room's exact location under wraps, is obliterating the name really appropriate bearing in mind that DD's main site states the name of the site?

I think those who completed the apprenticeship would have rather different opinions. I served the time but because I left for a better job after I passed out I failed my apprenticeship on a technicality.

The technicality was that I didn't get an NVQ L3, but I couldn't get the NVQ unless I took responsibility for my work (i.e. held a Safety Critical Licence), and apprentices were not permitted to hold an SCL as they were supposed to be under training and mentoring. See the problem?

The moderators can only edit this forum and are not responsible for places other than here. In any case DD's site was created prior to the events of July.
The action was taken with a view that there's no point asking to keep it secret - if post's say it's on the junction of x road and x avenue. We all know that pretty much anything is freely available on the net - but at least this forum can't be accussed of posting stuff 'willy nilly'.

Just to say that moderators very rarely act in isolation. In this case Colin and I were totally united as to what should be done. Yes, we could have removed the xxxxxx: on the other hand it might have been better to remove the offending post in its entirety: but think what a furore THAT would have created.

That is the point of moderation: members do not always see the wider picture so post innocently. So long as DD LU forum cannot be accused of being a security threat (however ridiculous) that's all that can be asked

I formed a good impression of the apprenticeships after working with a number of track apprentices.

the apprentceship is badly run and managed having doing a 3 year hell battle with the management there i finally finished a year early and i was the last year to get my deeds still with the words LONDON UNDERGROUND not METRONET or INFRACO SSL

if i knew then what i did now i would of joined as a signalling support fitter and made my way through the grades takes about the same time if not quicker to become a t/o but you are getting experience every day whilst at work not just doing a load of stuff that has no mean to your job for a year as the first year when you are a apprentice it is spent at acton in the training centre

Ok point taken Tom/aet. Are you saying that the apprenticeship was a waste of time? Or it doesn't carry weight in the company?

I came through the graduate route with infraco ssl after working outside of railways. Had my reservations and felt like quitting at times but stuck with it. Which I'm glad because it got my foot in the door to where I wanted to be.

It's badly planned more than anything else. Why advertise that you can get an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship when you can technically only achieve the qualification when (if) you qualify?
