Does anyone know how this is going to be operated, ie as a shuttle from heathrow t123, or will there be through running?

My understanding is that it's an extension of the existing loop - hence the suspension whilst the work is being carried out. It also means that Picc drivers don't have to do anything as complicated as 'change ends' more often than is necessary

Rumours have surfaced stating that PiccEx Junction (the new link between the Heathrow loop and the through lines from T123 to T5) will be a traingular flying junction, allowing trains coming up from T4 to alternately reverse at T5 or proceed directly to T123.

Trains to the New Heathrow Terminal 5 Station will run Westbound from Hatton Cross direct to Heathrow Terminals 123, then to Terminal 5 arrival platform. Trains will detrain and run empty to the Sidings west of T5, the train then runs into the departure platform. Then Eastbound to T123 & Hatton Cross.
Trains via Terminal 4 take the left hand route after leaving Hatton Cross to Terminals 123. (they will not go to Terminal 5.

My previous post was in reference to rumours. For anyone interested, the layout of T5 will consist of a single island platform, with a single central reversing siding west of the platforms and a scissors crossover east of the platforms.

Incorrect. There will be two sidings, and no crossover east of the station. (information taken for track / signalling diagram for T5) There will not be a shuttle, through trains will operate, as they do now for T123.

You were the one who originally confirmed the layout I described; has it been changed again? If it has, it sounds like there will be a single island platform, followed by a scissors crossover, and then by a pair of reversing sidings. IOW, Liverpool Street Central pre-New Works.

No its not right as two new step-plate junctions are being built west of Terminals 123. In September 2006, with all junction works enabled although not commissioned, the current service will be reinstated, so that trains will again work through the Terminal 4 Loop and eastbound from either platforms at Terminals 123. In March 2007 when test running to T5 starts, this will become an emergency movement as will west to east reversal at T123, since the through service to T5 will require dedicated eastbound and westbound platforms at Heathrow 123. The Service to Terminal 5 will not open to until Easter 2008 when both the Piccadilly Line and The Heathrow Express have been both commissioned.

Ah, thanks DWS.
That's just a minor alteration then, BRB...

[glow=blue,2,300]UPDATE![/glow]
From RM May 2005:
"Tunnelling to extend both Heathrow Express (HEx) and London Underground services to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow has been completed.
The two HEx tunnels are 1.6km long and the two Underground tunnels 1.7km.
The tunnelling team faced challenges working in close proximity to fuel lines, as well as other rail and service tunnels.
I can't remember when they started tunnelling, but that's quick progress isn't it? Does this mean they've connected the Picc tunnels to the T4 loop?
