Can anyone here settle the constant rumours about trains on the branch?
1. Is a 3 car 73ts set kept on the line permanently?
2. Are there regular rusty rail manoeuvres along the branch?
3. If 2 above is true, how is it staffed/crewed (i.e is there a rostered duty?)
Over to the experts (no further rumour mongers need apply ;D ;D ;D ;D)

1. No, it's a 72mkI in unrefurbished condition.
2. No. The trailing junction at Holborn (PD) is scotched and clipped, and this can only be undone if the branch is possessed by the engineers.
3. N/A.

IIRC that I read somewhere that about 2 times per month some spare driver makes a turn from Aldwych to Holborn and back coz' they use the tracks (for films, so the tracks don't get in the unusable shape) 3. IIRC Spare Driver

Although these days I believe Aldwych has been somewhat marginalized by Charing Cross Jubbly in terms of filming , especially since the latter is much newer, has almost-usable escalators and access to modern rolling stock.

3. If 2 above is true, how is it staffed/crewed (i.e is there a rostered duty?) The Test train Operator's based at Ruislip crew it when needed. These drivers are qualified on all stock on all lines.

Charing Cross is only suitable for mainly "in-platform" work as any move is required to be signalled by us chaps. As recent film crews have found, to film a train leaving northbound is fine, but if you need another take, you have to wait for it to go to West Hampstead and return (hopefully, but not guaranteed, back into the same platform ;D )

Would that train run all the way out of service or would it take passengers between Green Park and West Hampsted (and vice versa)?

Are you thinking of the adverts? - they are of a plain white train, so not in LUL livery.

I beleive Colin that the adverts for films in differnet countries whilst also in the host language are also different in content. I think that may be what Aldwych is referring to.

As far as I'm aware the 72 mkI stock was not painted for the film, nor appeared in the film in a painted condition, it was still in it's alluminium "colours". They did however use a viccy line train several times, though this was CGI of sorts, whether it was purely an image or edited with blue screen technology, I can't tell you! They also managed to use a 96 stock train with the sounds of a 95 stock (probably because of the eerie screech they can produce I reckoned) and a wooden mockup of a 96 door area with wooden floor (looked odd!) to show someone being dragged under the stationary train by "Creep".
Was quite a scary film but I liked it, British Horror movies are picking up now.

In the EWSA for this week a 4car 72Mk1 is going to Holborn, the unit at Aldwych will then shunt to the main line north of Holborn, couple to the other unit, then 8car 72Mk1 to Acton Works.Does anyone know why?

IS the unit being replaced by another at a later point? Perhaps it's an annual trip to the depot or something.

Blimey that drivers seat looks like a killer! I thought 72mk1 was fitted with a bigger, heavier one in the latter part of their life.

Is the Emergency Staircase that shown in Picture 5 on the locationworks site? A little to the right of the man's head.

The unit pictured above was seen at Ruislip Depot today, next to the 1962TS pilot and Sandite units.

Do they ever use the 73ts for any filming if the train above isn't there?
