Due to the brainless moron who legged it at Gunnersbury and forced a traction shutdown on the locals from Chiswick Park to Ravenscourt Park, I ended up on a delayed Piccadilly Line service headed west to Heathrow.
Interestingly enough we called at Turnham Green on the way, letting off a considerable number of people and taking on a few more, even though there were no trains in section anywhere between Hammersmith w/b and Acton Town w/b.
What exactly is the heuristic for telling a T/Op to call at Turnham Green?

Heuristic. Is that a word? ;D
The District was suspended - that is the reason for the Picc stopping. BTW what was the time? if it was after 2200, then the Picc is scheduled to stop there.

It was around 1130 on Saturday - the District had already been suspended due to a security alert at Temple and was still recovering when it was suspended again to Ealing and Richmond.

when the picc line is supposed to stop there is flashing amber lights either side of the station to warn the driver he has to stop this is controlled from a central heating timer in the interlocking machine room at turnham green

Doesn't sound as if those flashing lights work very often then, if at all! ;D As an ex-Piccadilly driver I can clearly remember how easy it was to forget to stop at Turnham Green on those odd occasions when you were supposed to. It was such a habit to run through non-stop most of the time. Way back in the 1970s an idea was mooted to keep the starting signals at danger until trains had stopped - during periods when they were scheduled to - but nothing came of it. For the record, I got it wrong 5 times in the 11 years I drove on the Piccadilly.

They have worked at some time in the last 4 years, I can remember seeing them and wondering what the hell they were!

They got them to work about two years ago, then couldn't switch them off! Stops at Turnham Green are indicated in WTT's and Duty Books. There was a time that Picc Line trains did not stop nomatter the time, these lights used to still flash. Local notice told us to ignore them.

Do I detect an Acton Picc driver here I must admit I can't remember the last time I saw them working but, on the other hand, my rostered duties don't either start until after they should have been turned off or finish before they should come on But welcome to our gang bollotom - I'm sure there will be a good few questions that you'll be able to help oy with!

the flashing lights at turnham green which tell the driver to stop havent worked for years , the l/c will divert the odd train which is at barons court on the west, to divert via the westbound local calling at all station to action town , if the green line is broken we do our best to assist whenever we can our detour does absolutley sweet fa to help the richmond livestock but at least the ealing broadway livestock can get to action town where it is a bit easier to reach their destination
