On various DMIs in Central London for WB Picc trains, it always displays upcoming Uxbridge trains as "Hillingdon/Uxbridge" - this is a bit of an anomaly as its displaying the last two stations of this train, as opposed to the last station which is standard for every other destination.
Why is that?

I think it's because sometimes the trains will terminate at Hillingdon and reverse via Uxbridge sidings, if Uxbridge station is too busy to handle an extra train reversing. Though they usually do serve Uxbridge, the Hillingdon is there as a caveat.

The actual answer is that when these DMIs were installed some evening peak trains terminated at Hillingdon before running empty to Uxbridge Sidings to stable. However the train describer system from which the DMI's take their information has never had a separate Hillingdon description and so the Uxbridge description was used for these trains as well as those actually going to Uxbridge. The DMIs show Hillingdon/Uxbridge to cover either possibility and was just about acceptable because the Hillingdon terminators represented a significant proportion of the through trains (this was in the days before the off peak service to Uxbridge was reintroduced). Subsequently, of course, service patterns have changed but the DMI's have not been updated to reflect this fact.
