The line from Hatton X to Heathrow T123 will be closed for a short period in late August to allow for engineering work related to the T5 extension and re-opening of the loop.

Reversing at Hatton X again..just like the Old Days! Does anyone recall there was going to be a car park on the roof? That's why it is designed that way.

Fascinating.
Does anyone know the exact dates of the closure? I'm going to need the Picc service on August 25th and would rather not take a bus...

According to the long term planned works PDF file on TfL's website, there are two closures affecting the Heathrow branch of the Picc:
Tues 29/8/06 - Thurs 31/8/06 (to be confirmed) Heathrow 123 - Hatton X
Sun 5/11/06 Heathrow - Hatton X

The loop reopens on Sunday September 17th .We have
been issued with a training DVD outlining the various
signalling alterations in the area . The DVD lasts 12 minutes ,
it was the longest 12 minutes of my life. The person
providing the commentary has one of the most boring
voices I have ever heard .

The T4 loop is due to reopen in September. Thats good, as for some reason I like that bit of line, probably because it is quite a long fast stretch! Don't say the narrator of " All Change at Earls Court" has struck again.... ;D ;D ;D I can think of a few other videos where you drop off to sleep because the narrator is so boring! At least you dont get that problem with that ompany that does cab ride videos, although they then tend to be a silent movie!

The DVD lasts 12 minutes, it was the longest 12 minutes of my life. The person providing the commentary has one of the most boring voices I have ever heard. Always a problem when a technical guy is asked to do a presentation. Which is why, love'em or hate'em, on TV the technical commentaries are always done by professional presenters. LT/LBL/LU overcame that problem towards the end of the life of its own internal film/video units. They tended to use either professional presenters and/or heavily edited interviews with staff. In those days they often worked to a formula where the writer went out and learned the job before writing the script. The reason that it worked was that, if an outside writer could teach someone after learning the job from scratch, staff with experience found it easy to understand. A professional presenter then smoothed things off and made the mundane sound interesting. Things are not so easy to understand when the presentation is by an expert who makes assumptions about the knowledge and ability of the viewer, and who invariably has the personality of a wet sock. Unfortunately, things now seems to swing from one extreme to another. On one hand we have DVDs or Powerpoint productions that are produced cheaply by the manufacturing/construction companies who were involved in the works, on the other there are external productions commissioned from wanabee Hollywood directors. Does anyone remember an all-singing, all-dancing video with a host of 'B' actors that was made for LU a few years ago? It featured a lead character called 'The Witch of the Northern Line' (which someone obviously thought was very clever) dressed up in a costume that would not have looked out of place on Dr Who. From what I saw, almost everyone who watched it looked as if they wanted the floor to open and swallow them up. It had such an impact that images from it still haunt me to this day; however, the message (whatever it was) is totally lost.

As long as the District (or the NLL) is running to Richmond, it doesn't matter if the Ealing and Rayners lines are shut.

Is there going to be any route training in the cab, or will train ops just watch the video? Just asking, because running empty trains around the loop for training, whilst also running passenger trains to T123 would be a bit of a problem.

I can think of a few other videos where you drop off to sleep because the narrator is so boring! Trains in Traction Train Crazy: DMU Sunset

Except in the Signal Department where we had 'What's The Point?' which was a mind numbing video on... points. I am afraid that not every department used the facilities and I know of at least one (not the signalling dept) that tried to make its own training video on domestic equipment to save money. It was such an 'unusual' production, that it gained a cult status and copies were eagerly sought by those who had heard about it.

Do you still get to walk the line - I remember walking Hounslow West to Hatton X before service started. All clean and smelling of cement!
