at Golders Green there are three tunnels going underground.
why?

one, that on the left heading south, is simply a shunt neck for the yard; when a train arrives from the EDG direction, theres not enough room to clear the points, hence this tunnel is only about one and a half cars length.
theres a light at the end of the tunnel, which illuminates when the back of the train is clear of the points.

I was under the impression it was only a full car's length [the shunt neck] though I will stand corrected.

Went in there once on a s/b dud train, I'm sure it was just over a cars length.... Mind you, this was four years ago...
Me memory might be fading....

I got off a dud train at Golders a couple of weeks ago, Got on the next s/b, passed the shunt neck, about 3/4 of the first car was in the tunnel. The driver was walking through to the other cab.

Suppose it depends on where the train actually stops in the shunt neck.
