I was on the desk for most of the test running - but it's not the first 7-car Jub train I have routed recently. There is no noticeable difference in the track circuit operation. The normal service was running, and a glance at the diagram would not instantly tell you which train was the slightly longer one. As most of our part of the line was originally signalled for 8-car trains, it would have to be a train longer than this to show any sort of difference - and even then it would only show up in certain areas. I figured that would be the case. As for the planning Towerman refers to, we were at last given a "plan" for our side which involved reversing at Willesden Green. However, this did not allow for the booked Willesden reversers, so said plan was eventually binned. Was it not possible to try out the 7-car-cleared siding at West Hampstead?

Yes and yours truly was the one routing it again (the daytime working anyway). Just ran up and down between Stratford and Stanmore.
Sorry Mr1K, I cut myself short for some reason. What I meant to say was that when the plan was binned on Saturday, it was not actually binned until the booked Willesden reversers began at around 1500hrs. The train was reversed at West Hampstead for it's final 2 trips of the day. So that siding has indeed been tested (although thanks to the night-turn testing over recent weeks, it had already seen a fair amount of longer trains.)

It looks like the 7 car is out every day in traffic hours to accumulate mileage,it's still out every Wednesday and Sunday in engineering hours. Also one of the additional trains 96122-96121 is going out on Wednesdays and Sundays too. It's going to be busy tonight as the other half of the ATO test train(96062)returns from Highgate tonight sandwiched between batteries and schomas.

Yes, in typical jubilee fashion, it is the only train to run around every day in traffic hours without a single entry in either the timetable, traffic circular or special notice. And to top it all, there is never a plan.

One week of incorporating 7th cars, the following units have been done:96003,96011,96027,96031,96071,96073,96115, 96121. They've taken the opportunity to get hold of more spare 6 cars by upping the SMD stock holding to 34 trains.

I saw a 7th car being added at Stratford depot today as I went past. Are these new cars or are they taking them out of trains which could be in service?

The car which you saw being added at Stratford Market Depot is part of the New build of 59 cars. Also 4 new trains have been built, by the end of February 2006 the Jubilee Line will have 63 - 7 car trains.

Will any 7-car trains run on test on the line during the days of the 'reduced service'?

Will any 7-car trains run on test on the line during the days of the 'reduced service'? Much of the mileage accumulation will have been moslty achieved by then (being done by the recent test running). Though of course, the action of swapping stock between the north and south ends of the line will mean each train will get a bit of a run - if only from Stratford to Neasden/Stanmore. 7- car Test Trains have been running empty in off peak hours from about two weeks ago, some days up to 3 test trains have run. Or of course 1 train has done 3 trips

Mr1KEA, if you take a journey during the daytime off peak hours on the Jubilee at present, you have a good chance of seeing a 7 car train being tested. Take a look at the DMIs, if it reads "Not In service", then its most likely a 7 car train.

If you're at Finchley Rd or Wembley Pk from 27th to 30th you'll see all the seven cars you want.Running ghost service to iron out any snags before re-opening on New Years Eve.

You may also (if the plan runs to schedule - unlikely but...) even ride on a 7-car train during the "shutdown" period. The ghost service may be opened to the public (un-advertised of course, so if it all goes wrong we're letting nobody down) depending on how things go over the Christmas period.
As for the DMIs, when I'm on at least they should read "Train Under Test." I am using the description we were given when the 96 stock was new and being tested. But if it's all giving too many clues away, then I'll advise my colleagues to describe the things as "Stanmore" then you'll have a little more trouble finding them ;D

As Finchley Rd is my local station, and I'll be travelling to work during the shutdown week, I had better bring my camera!

Would the line just completely re-open to the public early, partially re-open to the public (e.g between stations that are already open to other lines e.g Wembley Pk to Finchley Rd), or just run the occasional train with passengers (would seem the least likely as it would cause operational confusion)?

In answer to Stephnek, someone on high will decide that everything is going well and then either passenger service will start the following day or an instruction will go out along the the lines "From xxxxhrs Jubilee trains will start operating passenger services"Nothing will actually be said to the passengers, they'd have to find that out for themselves.

If anyone wants to see 7 cars about tomorrow there are quite a few stock moves going on leaving SMD at 06:30,07:00x2,08:00,08:30,08:45,09:00,09:15,09:30,11:15,12:00,12:15 &12:30.Being stock moves the times could drift depending on driver availability and service disruptions.

Very eerie on Finchley Road station with no Jubbly trains in service! Normally a very busy station, but all but deserted at around 4pm today. Quite a few ghost trains on the Jubbly though, including at least one wholly new train.
By the way, are the additional trailers being placed in the same position on all trains, and if so where is it?

Oh dear! This has all the hallmarks of an overrun...it would be very tough to manage (and bad embarrassment), if they weren't able to run a Jubilee Line over New Years Eve/Day...(assuming there is no strike)
