I wonder how much fun aetearlscourt and Co. had at Tower Hill today ;D

It was somewhat amusing to watch wrong TD after wrong TD get put up at Earl's Court e/b, confusing the huge crowd of punters enormously. The amusement got a bit greater when a D stock got diverted to Barking and substituted for a Wimbleware, resulting in a wrong stick at EC7 that shut down the whole e/b service completely, with both platforms occupied...

Is the merry-go-round maneuver from pfm2 to Gloucester Road via EC11 rte 1 and EC7 rte 2 a programmable move?

Nothing wrong at Tower Hill today. Minories Junction however was another matter. Being at Minories the failure was a matter to be sorted out by the Met technical officer & Signal Operations Manager. The problem was a points failure after the passage of the first (and as it turned out only) Inner Rail Circle of the day through Minories Junction.

Interesting - the publicity machine was churning out 'track failure at Tower Hill' - surely 'track failure at Aldgate' would have been a slightly better choice?

I suppose you're luckier than your colleagues bashing away at Aldgate then...

Are there any more details available on what sort of failure resulted in the facing points getting knackered in the normal position?

The points failed in the reverse position. It took an hour to get them normal again during which time the circle & District were suspended entirely. Once normal they were taken out of commission until repairs could be carried out over-night. This meant that while the District could run the Inner Rail Circles could not.

Noticed quite a few wrong TDs and had around 3 "Tower Hill Reversers" head off to Whitechapel (normally being informed by Whitechapel when they arrived there ;D ). Luckily, as the Circle service had been cancelled, none of them caused problems for the computer - with everything ex-Tower Hill routed the same way.

Ah - I misread your original post; you implied that the first train passed successfully, with the points normalizing and then breaking thus.

I suppose most of the time taken was unhooking the points from the drive, right? The rest, namely, retracting the locks, moving the blades, relocking them, applying the S&C and force-feeding the circuits doesn't take long, does it?

Applying false feeds does which is why it is only done as a last resort. Normally you just get them normal and secure normal.

Many of us here know where Minories Junction is. The majority of passengers (particularly Sunday tourists) probably don't, the completely "honest" reason is avoided.

As the problem meant that the "gap" in the service began at Tower Hill and not Aldgate, the former is chosen above the latter.

Sometimes they do pass on the info in some strange ways, but they weren't far off on this one in terms of clarity.

it was caused by the r/h switch rail moving forward (in direction of traffic) and that caused the points to fail on the WL (groundlock) for those who know the points were of the chairlock type. trying to explain why the points failed due to the rail movement would take a whole new thread by itself lets just say on the chairlock design there is no real rrom for error in the p-way side of things

Fascinating. What would cause a switch rail to move in a horizontal direction?

the anchor which is supposed to keep the stock and switch kept in the correct poisition was installed in-correctly (upside down) this lets the switch to drive forward if installed correctly the switch has no where to go
