As part of a work-in-progress, I've just uploaded a diagram of the Charing Cross loop in 1925 with some annotations. I still need to tweak the source document somewhat - but I'm happy with it as it stands at the moment. The image is here I will carry on amending as and when I've got the time. Notable differences in the signalling include the starter onto the Loop from Strand becoming a controlled signal, rather than an automatic previously; the lever used for this was formerly the wrong-direction shunt over the crossover. More signals and repeaters had been installed on the loop since 1914. I still need to find out what lever was the 'King'; but eventually a scrap of information will turn up. Enjoy.

A question.....was the Charing X platform abandoned, and a new station built,or is it still used,as part of Embankment station?

Which do you mean? Given all the different times and locations that the apellation 'Charing Cross' has been given over the years? ;D ;D
If you're referring to the single platform on the loop (in Terminal 4 style) this was retained as the Northbound platform of Charing Cross (then, Embankment now). It explains why the SB at Embankment is straight (all it needed to line up with was the new tunnels to Kennington) and the NB is curved - still partially on the radius of the old loop, following the curve of Villiers Street heading towards the Embankment.

Theres an excellent selection of drawings and pictures in a book titled The Last Link, by Mike Horne, ISBN 9780950741666. On Page 45, there is a pic of signal S262, which was in the Charing X Loop; it also shows how the signal worked, plus the ancient design of trainstop. Also, on page 16, there is a diagram to show how the Ch X Loop interacted with the streets and river.

Great diagram. I have read (although can't remember the source) that the loop could handle up to 44 tph. I don't know if this was really the case or not!

In relation to the diagram, where is the SB platform at Embankment situated?

The middle of the loop, opposite the northbound.
