Now being fitted to all carriages. They look cheap and nasty Rubber straps seems to distort very easily. This follows customer feedback.

The 378 ones have held up very well, and I presume they are the same ones?

I think its quite a good idea - it's just a shame that they could not be maroon which would help to give the trains some form of identity again.
Then with Circle they could be yellow, District could be Green etc.
I suspect it is something to do with the DDA

If you run out of District green poles to replace a broken one you'll have to add a yellow or a pink or a purple one, which would look weird and out of place. Therefore if they are all yellow, they can order lots more of the exact same thing which is cheaper

Damn straps, I keep bumping into them... Whose brilliant idea was to return this relic of past era to S8s?

That also happens in tube trains - 1992 stock are identified by their pole colour and previously moquette (dark teal for W&C line) and maroon for the Central. That also happens to the Victoria line (the 67 stock had light-blue poles) and also happens to the Picc (with dark blue poles) and B'loo (with brown poles). However it doesn't happen on the Jubilee and Northern, but there is no need to identify trains on their line's colour.

It seems all new trains will be based on Class 378s (tube/subsurface). XD

For trains that are designed for lots of standing there is not a lot to easily hang on to in many places. This seems more of a problem at the end of the cars where the floor is wider but there are no rails to easily grab onto and they have not put straps at the car ends. The straps and high grab rail are only one side of the car. I think they should have put something more central to allow two rows of standing passengers to easily grab onto something.
Still good to hear they are responding to customer feedback. Now what about responding to the feedback wanting more seats and fast trains back to Ricky and beyond (I will now run and hide!)

Nice to see. I recall commenting on the lack of hand-holds in the mock-up...
they should also give shorter people a chance to hold on (not a problem for me per se, but it should encourage people to move down the cars)

They should have gone for the bobble-on-spring ones! Far better and more distinct to the Underground.

You know, in fifty years sentimental idiots like me will pay silly amounts of money for one of these. I can hang it from the hook on my luggage rack.

You say that now, I can see the 81 year old metman getting teary-eyed as the dets go off and the last S8 slinks off into the depot. Hopefully to the sound of an accordian; I still reckon they should be fitted with an accordian at each car-end so that they play a tune as they go around corners.

Hah ha! You are assuming the horrid things make it to 50! In 10 years they'll be taped up like the 92/96 stock!

Ahhhh, that's what they're going to do with all that Purple tape they use to parcel up the luggage racks that got sent out!

They are supposed to be fitting five trains a week with strap hangers, so get your "original" S Stock photos now, before it's too late!! Another piece of history being written - to a relatively new train

Too long for Amersham man to wait methinks!
With 14 seats less on an S7+1 than on an S8, I see they are going to try and keep them away from the busiest peak flows.
The thought of riding "side saddle" all the way from Amersham/Chesham to the City ...... ;D ;D

So already, a mini-refurb with new strap handles
It will be interesting, when the S8s go to the great scrapyard in the sky (in about 25 years as they won't last as long as the A stock), whether they go back by "oop narth" by road or rail
Don't forget, stock used to be delivered via Milton Keynes and Aylesbury (via Calvert), and the Calvert - Bletchley link is due to be reinstated before long. I wonder if it will see LU use again??
It seems crazy to use 8 x low loaders when it can be loco hauled in one trip

The best thing to do to stop bad customer relations would be to keep them on the Uxbridge and Watford services due to the shorter distances than that of Amersham and Chesham

Well I think we've attacked the S stock enough tonight. We shall await the moans when they work up to Amersham without transverse seats....
