The commissioner's report from September has the following to say about accessibility on the Victoria Line: What is the issue at Pimlico that prevents the humps being installed? Is the exemption permanent or just a deadline extension? edit: link to report

Is it because Pimlico doesn't have step free access and isn't connected to another line/a terminus (and Victoria is quite near)?

Although they are interchanges, there is no step-free access from the platforms to anywhere else at either Walthamstow Central or Blackhorse Road.

I travelled from Vauxhall to Euston earlier this week. At Vauxall I walked down the platform to be close to the exit at Euston. By one of the recessed seats, the platform level was noticably higher to allow for level access. I wonder if at Pimilco any hump would interfere with the way on/off the platform to the escalator concourse?

Nope, there are lifts to street level at Brixton now. Bah, I mis-read the original statement. The point I was making was that there was/is step-free access from train to street at Brixton.

Yeah, which is why they've added the hump there. What I'm curious about is what they can't/won't at Pimlico.

there are no plans to put in step free access at Pimlico. There are plans - mainly long term - to do so at all the other stations. So, as part of the overall plan permission was givne not to install humps at this station.

Looking at the signalling scale plans, both platforms at Pimlico are slightly "S" shaped. This may be the reason for not being to install humps (train may oversail more where the humps would be). Either that or it could be to do with the height of the existing platform.
Some stepping distance measurements will be carried out at some point on 09 Stock for JTC validation purposes, so that may show the reason why humps cannot be put at Pimlico.

Could it be just practicality? I'm just a passenger and so have no inside info, but from my recollections... At Pimlico, you have the Booking hall, the escalators, and the platforms are pretty much strung out in a straight line. So the booking hall (laterally) is almost an escalators length from the closest part of the platforms. I can't think of a way to put in a lift there, even if you do resolve to having to build some more passages. An additional deep level passage to the platforms would need to go through where the bottom of the escalator is with a tunnel on either side and enter from the side of the platform as there is some kind of machine room blocking the end of the platform. hmmmm....

According to Underground News, the lack of humps at Pimlico is because there are no plans for step-free access, and it is not a station at which trains can terminate.
