Tracks are all in place and cleared of any construction items This used to be true... Except now at Stratford itself. About 20 foot worth of of the track bed's been lifted, and the concrete under it has been broken out. No train could possibly run the whole length now. Further, they've dumped a bunch of construction stuff (and a bunch of wooden sleepers) on some of the tracks. I'd get some piccies, but everytime I walk over the footbridge I forget to do it.

No point in rushing towards a maiden voyage - trying to show off how quick new services can be pressed into action was the Titanic's downfall. Terminal 5 too - an excellent example of something which should have been ramped up to full capacity over several weeks or months rather than expecting everything to work perfectly on day one.

From what I have been given to understand, October is a more realistic time for first test running CAT-STI.

I don't see how it matters. For a service that was never there in the first place it's hardly an inconvenience if it's delayed from the original vague opening date.

Since Stratford Int. is already open for passenger service, lack of DLR is a major inconvenience for all 10 passengers of Southern's service.

Crossrail and ELLX2 replace many existing services - DLR from Stratford to Stratford Int does not replace anything (well, except inconvenient buses <- and that's why it is already needed).

So do we know when it's going to open yet? All they say is "Autumn 2010".

It's Autumn now. When's it going to open? I'm bored of the current tube map. I want an update.

Anytime soon no doubt and your map will become fascinating again! ;D Now, I have to go to another part of the forum to rant about the appearance of the ELL on the map - a disgrace!!

Fair enough, if that is the case, then they have let the project slip beyond the initially stated season although it will still be way ahead of the crowds for the Olympics. However, I would repeat my earlier statement, it never existed before so who is it inconveniencing now by not being ready yet? It's not Crossrail or the ELLX. As somebody above mentioned that's a totally unrelated scenario.

I am curious as to why this is the only major DLR project to have been delayed by any substantial amount. Most (if not all) of the other DLR extensions opened early or bang on time, so why is this one being held up so badly?

I hate to repeat myself, but: They have delays all the time! The only difference to the rest of TfL is that the DLR's PR is pretty good at cover-ups - usually they quietly change the opening date to some faraway point in the future, and then suddenly even late delivery becomes an early one (they did it for new Stratford platforms, Tower Gateway rebuild, Langdon Park, Woolwich Arsenal extension - probably not an extensive list)
