The next train on Platform 2 is the District Line to...

I think I'm one of the few people who liked the original announcements on the Jubilee Line. The tone and interesting pronunciation is part of it's charm, and because it sounds very different it doesn't merge into the background noise when you are not paying attention. "This train terminates at Neeeasdon" still makes me smile - even after nearly 10 years The DLR I've never been a fan of. I'm assuming is from a voice synthesiser rather than a real person, because the tone is a cross between annoyance and boredom with a touch of depression. Either the woman was on take 30 or they got software based on Marvin the Paranoid Android to record the cuts. Maybe one day it will say "The next station is Langdon Park, not that you care. Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and all I get to do is announce stations all day."

Yup very robotic. Probably similar sort of thing to Microsoft Sam or the person who does Answers Dot Com because the phrases are so poorly edited together!

Is this the different Celia? It sounds like Celia has a bit of a cold.

I know. I thought that the other week when I rode from Canary to Greenwich - the voice doesn't sound very professional at all, like a housewife who has been grabbed off the street and forced to speak into a microphone! It is awful. As I've mentioned on the forum before, best DVA ever has to be the original Central Line ones, voiced by Janet Mayo. It was very good BTW that website with the recordings is fantastic!

Sounds a bit like the old Jubilee Celia: click! Yeah sounsds like the one who announces the stations. I think this is the rarer Northern Line one being refered to which is only on fewer trains apparantly (mentioned previously by another member) to me nothing beats this: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tW5HJtjdw10

That Picc one is horrible. I find it quite creepy.

I agree with you about the Janet Mayo one, and the DLR, in fact I agree with all of this post!

I agree with all of this post! Blimey I never thought I'd hear someone say that ;D ;D ;D I set out to make some Janet recordings a few months ago, having spotted 91223 at North Acton.......when I boarded it the gits changed the DVA! It had the current one (BTW for those that don't know, 91223 had the original announcements until about 4 months ago)!!

For example its easy for LU to say "we're switching all lines to Emma" but then they'd be making Celia, Anita, DLR and Picc redundant; thats probably why Anita still reads the terminius on the Jub.

I'm sure I must be losing it now, as today I head a THIRD version. This one was a mix of 1 and 2, a nice voice, but had a good bit too say!? Could this be it? I can't work out which Northern Line Celia it is either??

That's Celia Mk 1. Janet Mayo, Anita, and Celia (Jub) are the best in my opinion. For those who haven't heard Janet, a recording is here: www.angelfire.com/sc/loadreg/rm/soundsmedia.htmlAs for the DLR, UGGH! And VERA sounds like a fed-up tea lady!

Amen to that, I almost burst out laughing when I heard it, which needless to say got me some strange looks. The DVA on the DLR is truly dreadful, especially when it's raining, never fails to dampen my spirits.

Hey all,
Celia Mk1 units have been updated at KXSP - now for some odd reason it is hyphenated on the dot matrix: "This station is King's Cross-St Pancras"
Both the DMI and announcer now state: "and Main Line intercity and surburban and international rail services"
Also is there a reason why the Northern line treats the Circle and Hammersmith & city lines as one line i.e. "Circle and Hammersmith,..." - I have heard the term "Circle and Hammersmith" used before.. but these days everyone would say "Circle" and "Hammersmith & City lines" separately?
