Ooooo.... trolleybuses!!! Have any of you guys been to the East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville near Lowestoft?? They do special 'trolleybus weekends' when you get to ride on those lovely vehicles that Q8, Dave, and I, remember from our younger days. They were double deck, right? Never seen like that except on photos. However, the nearest trolleybus stop is in 3 minutes of leisurely walk from my chair . Nearest tram stop is somewhat farther from me . Coming back to the topic - l don't remember my first encounters with any kind of trains well, however I'm sure I was not scared, but very curious . And almost everything I could travel on during my childhood is still there, maybe not in Moscow, but in other towns throughout the country...

Not as dangerous as crossing an ordinary road late at night wearing dark coloured clothing. Actually, it's not even close to crossing a road in broad daylight with flourescent clothing on. As a someone who has to use an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing every day I tend to agree with you...

The most flexible formation is, I think, that of xUSSR rolling stock - take 2 DMs, add some NDMs between them, and you have 40/60/80/100/120/140/160-metre trains at your disposal . However I don't think LU management will welcome an idea of making each car an independent traction unit .

As I understand it, the new SSR stock will be compatible only as far as parts are concerned. Different lines have different platform lengths, so each line will require different train lengths. Easier to achieve than you think .

Is it intended that the plastic D stock is still around when the new SSL trains enter service? Yes, (almost) for sure, as LU can't replace all SSL stock at once. The first of SSL stock to be replaced is, of course, A - currently the oldest LU stock.

Currently, a gap on the Circle Line cannot be filled by a Met train on it's way to Aldgate. But let's say in the future they have made the sensible move of putting drivers back at Baker Street. The Met arrives at Baker Street, gets picked-up by the Circle driver. The passengers already heading to Aldgate complete their journey as planned, and the gap on the Circle is filled. That's a basic example, and of course stock is then required to be found for the Met train's northbound trip, but it shows how generic stock could help. Wouldn't it mean more headaches for you?

What do tube drivers get paid? (I don't mean to be personal/nosey etc, it's just something i've wondered. I know Weymouth - Waterloo drivers with SWT get £28,500 and I wondered how it compares) I've seen figures about £30,000 floating around. BTW, am I correct on assumption that those figures are "per year, before taxation"?

And in response to your question, no it doesn't work for me either. I just get the header. Thanks for confirming the problem. I've notified Tubeprune of it, and hopefully service will be restored soon. That site has plenty of the LU-related information, but it's difficult to use without a home page which is currently missing ...

I remember seeing a 3 car 59 (or 62??) TS at South Ealing (eb local) coupled to a 4 car 92TS. Firstly the former was painted green, why is this? Secondly, why the hell were they coupled up together in the first place?! (and yes, I realise they were on test ) I'm almost sure it was a stock pilot unit described here: www.squarewheels.org.uk/rly/stock/1962tubeStock.html#stock-pilots

I must admit that getting hit by xx tonnes of train isn't my idea of a good use for spare time! More likely it is xxx or xxxx tonnes ;D. Anyway, the railway is a strange (to put it mildly) choice of the playground...

I'll second that. And moving the forum from Bravenet to Proboards was a great idea (for me, the former one was always very slow and awkward to use ).

The problem with this, is that, due to the competitive nature of the challenge, and the fact that you could end up with the world record, those who have tried, whether they succeed or not, tend to keep their route secret, to prevent others from using the same route, and possibly beating the record if they get improved connections. I can't say much more than to agree with you . Thus, I don't think the guy will get anything except very general suggestions like 'start early from Amersham', 'pay special attention to the stations with unfrequent service (Chesham)', 'be aware that some stations close earlier or don't open on Sundays' etc. etc. There was a discussion on TTF about that matter some time ago, too. Some of the relevant threads are: billz1064.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&n=1&thread=1104801819billz1064.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&n=1&thread=1105040679billz1064.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&n=1&thread=1106745086For the record you also have to ensure you follow the rules laid down by Guinness. Also, I'm not sure where the record stands at the moment, as it is impossible to do the WHOLE system, until Heathrow T4 re-opens billz1064.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&n=1&thread=1105040679But, it's better to ask Guinness anyway. To Dave: I hope it isn't against your rules to refer to the another forums here.
